NCAA Football Rankings 2016: Week 8 College Top 25 Standings Shakeup Predictions

Joe PantornoOct 16, 2016

Week 7 of the 2016 college football season is complete, and once again, not every team within the Top 25 came out unscathed.

Of the 20 ranked teams in action this week, five of them went down, and a few others experienced scares.

As we've reached the halfway point in October, here are the current rankings and predictions of how they'll look when the Week 8 polls are released on Sunday evening:

Biggest Shakeup

No. 22 Arkansas hasn't been ranked higher than 16th since the 2012 season, but after a thrilling 34-30 win over No. 12 Ole Miss on Saturday, there's a chance that it could be close to that number come Week 8.

This isn't the flashiest or most dominant team in the nation. On paper, the Razorbacks look far from it:

Passing Yards/Game27237th
Rushing Yards/Game176.363rd
Points/Game3543rd
Points Against/Game27.5T68th

But don't tell Bret Bielema's crew that, as Arkansas is beating the programs it is supposed to, including TCU, Texas State, Louisiana Tech and Alcorn State.

With its two losses coming against Top 10 schools in No. 1 Alabama and No. 6 Texas A&M, it's already been proved that Arkansas isn't the best team in the SEC.

However, if it can follow up the win over Ole Miss with another against No. 23 Auburn, which is coming off a bye week, the Razorbacks could be flirting with a Top 12 ranking in two weeks.

The loss will not only send Ole Miss toward the bottom of the rankings, but it also might drop it out of the polls altogether. Even though the Rebels have lost to No. 14 Florida State and Alabama, a third loss and second conference defeat most likely took them out of SEC contention and ended their chances of a major bowl bid.
