Ranking the Best Uncommitted College Basketball Recruits in the Class of 2017
Now that the early signing period has finished, it's time to re-examine the uncommitted class of 2017 prospects who are still available during the rest of the season.
In past years, we've seen this list include a handful of 5-star prospects with a mix of some 4-star prospects, but this year's list is dominated exclusively by 5-star-caliber players.
With so many impact players still available at this point in senior-year recruiting, it should make for a few intriguing months of schools filling out classes and chasing certain players as a priority.
Here's a look at the 10 best prospects who remain uncommitted in the class of 2017. Some of these players are planning to commit before the end of 2016, while others will likely wait until after NBA draft decisions come out. Since 5-star forward Billy Preston is expected to commit this week, we've left him off this slideshow in favor of another player who will be available for longer.

10. M.J. Walker
1 of 10
Measurables: 6'4", 200 lbs
High School and Hometown: Jonesboro High School; Jonesboro, Georgia
Best Asset: An aggressive attacker who scores a lot of points, M.J. Walker is physically ready to come in and produce at the college level thanks in part to a football background. Walker had Division I offers in both basketball and football and opted to stick with basketball as he's become a 5-star prospect.
Recruiting Rundown: Walker jumped into full-time basketball recruiting a bit later than most because of his football career going until last year, but he's taken an official visit to Florida State so far. It's looking likely that Walker will make a spring decision. In-state schools like Georgia and Georgia Tech, as well as Maryland and Ohio State, have been involved with Walker.
9. Brian Bowen
2 of 10
Measurables: 6'7", 175 lbs
High School and Hometown: La Lumiere School (La Porte, Indiana); Saginaw, Michigan
Best Asset: Brian Bowen's perimeter versatility makes him a nice weapon to have since he can handle the ball a bit, hit spot-up jumpers or attack the basket. With good size and scoring ability, Bowen is multipositional, and he should complement a number of different lineups at the college level.
Recruiting Rundown: Bowen's decision could come in December as he's still looking to take an official visit to Texas before deciding, according to his mother, Carrie (via Scout.com's Evan Daniels). Previously taking official visits to Arizona, Creighton and NC State, Bowen is also still involved with his in-state program of Michigan State.
8. Trae Young
3 of 10
Measurables: 6'2", 170 lbs
High School and Hometown: Norman North High School; Norman, Oklahoma
Best Asset: Deep shooting range gives Trae Young a leg up on other guards in the 2017 class since he's able to hit pull-up jumpers from out to well beyond three-point range. With that ability to pull up and hit jumpers from deep range, it forces defenses to play up on Young, which opens up a lot of driving lanes for him to make plays for himself or others. Young's ability helped his MoKan Elite team win the Nike Peach Jam this summer, as he was one of the most productive lead guards in the country this July.
Recruiting Rundown: Young has taken all five of his official visits—Kansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. Watching to see how schools use their point guards could be a big key for Young this season since the Red Raiders have a new head coach and Kentucky (Isaiah Briscoe, De'Aaron Fox) and Oklahoma State (Jawun Evans) both have underclass perimeter players currently starting. Young's decision might come down to potential NBA draft defections and style of play.
7. Jarred Vanderbilt
4 of 10
Measurables: 6'7", 205 lbs
High School and Hometown: Victory Prep Academy South; Houston
Best Asset: At 6'7" with great lateral quickness and athleticism, Jarred Vanderbilt is a defensive menace who can guard multiple spots on the floor. Since Vanderbilt can stick one player or switch multiple spots, he's valuable at the next level because he can make up for other players not being as good at that end of the floor. Vanderbilt's quick hands and leaping ability make him strong in passing lanes, and he's also a gifted rebounder who can defend the rim a little bit.
Recruiting Rundown: Since Vanderbilt missed the July live evaluation period with a foot injury, he wasn't evaluated and recruited as hard as some of his peers during the summer. This fall, Vanderbilt took official visits to Kentucky and North Carolina, and nothing else is currently planned. Kentucky took a commitment from another forward in P.J. Washington, so it'll be intriguing to see if the Wildcats and Vanderbilt are still potential fits. Arizona and Texas have been two other schools involved with Vanderbilt this fall, but an official visit hasn't been set yet.
6. Brandon McCoy
5 of 10
Measurables: 7'0", 235 lbs
High School and Hometown: Cathedral Catholic High School; San Diego
Best Asset: With Brandon McCoy being so agile and big, he is an incredibly difficult matchup since he moves so well. The 7-footer can run the floor and has shown decent hands and touch, so he's good in transition if he can get ahead of slower big men. McCoy can also hedge screens and recover while still protecting the middle of the floor.
Recruiting Rundown: Still in the midst of official visits, McCoy has seen the campuses of Arizona, Oregon and UNLV, and he's scheduled to see Michigan State this weekend. Although Arizona and Michigan State both have talented big men committed in the class of 2017, McCoy played alongside Wildcats commit DeAndre Ayton in the Nike EYBL, and McCoy would likely be a candidate to start at Michigan State with its departures up front.
5. Hamidou Diallo
6 of 10
Measurables: 6'6", 180 lbs
High School and Hometown: Putnam Science Academy (Putnam, Connecticut); Flushing, New York
Best Asset: Elite athleticism allows Hamidou Diallo to sky above the competition for finishes as he's able to score in traffic and make plays that other guards can't. Diallo's burst to the basket is special, and it also makes him a talented offensive rebounder for a guard—he's capable of putback dunks over big men because he's so quick off the floor. The athleticism also helps Diallo excel on the defensive end, where he's capable of being a major factor.
Recruiting Rundown: Diallo is going slowly with the recruiting process as he's cut his list to six schools. Still considering Arizona, Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky and Syracuse, Diallo has yet to take an official visit, but he has seen UConn and Syracuse on unofficial visits. The NBA is also something for Diallo to consider, since this is his post-graduate year of high school. Diallo could be the next player to go the route that Thon Maker just went if he feels he's ready for the pros.
4. Kevin Knox
7 of 10
Measurables: 6'8", 205 lbs
High School and Hometown: Tampa Catholic High School; Tampa, Florida
Best Asset: Kevin Knox can jump out of the gym, and that ability mixed with his size on the wing lets him be a potential double-double threat on the perimeter. Aggressive attacking the rim in transition, Knox is also a good rebounder for a wing, and his burst off the floor is impressive.
Recruiting Rundown: Knox is taking his time during the recruiting process, as he's already officially visited Duke and has scheduled visits to Florida State, Kentucky and North Carolina. The Blue Devils will be attractive because Knox is friends and former USA Basketball teammates with guard commit Gary Trent Jr., but those other schools also have a lot to offer him.
3. Wendell Carter
8 of 10
Measurables: 6'10", 240 lbs
High School and Hometown: Pace Academy; Atlanta
Best Asset: Wendell Carter's polished post scoring should help any school quite a bit since he can command double-teams and get shooters open looks. With Carter's advanced skill level and ability to score in multiple ways, he's a potential go-to post scorer who doesn't come around the college game often.
Recruiting Rundown: Carter won't be on this list for long, as he's set to commit on Nov. 23. Taking official visits to Harvard, Duke and Georgia Tech, Carter is being pressured to join friend and former USA Basketball teammate Gary Trent Jr. at Duke. Harvard has also been in the picture the whole time, while Georgia Tech is the local choice.
2. Mohamed Bamba
9 of 10
Measurables: 6'11", 215 lbs
High School and Hometown: Westtown School (Westtown, Pennsylvania); Harlem, New York
Best Asset: Not many centers come equipped with a 7'9" wingspan like Mohamed Bamba does, but his quickness and length enable him to be an elite rebounder and defender. Bamba can switch onto smaller defenders and also get back and challenge shots at the rim—he's a unique talent on defense.
Recruiting Rundown: Bamba has visited several schools during the fall, but he isn't going to make a decision yet. Taking official visits to Michigan and Texas, Bamba has also taken unofficial visits to Connecticut, Harvard and Kentucky. Duke also remains involved for the 5-star center, as the Blue Devils have been out to see him this fall.
1. Trevon Duval
10 of 10
Measurables: 6'3", 190 lbs
High School and Hometown: IMG Academy (Bradenton, Florida); Hockessin, Delaware
Best Asset: The nation's elite point guard prospect is Trevon Duval, and his quickness is his biggest asset. Since he can touch the paint whenever he wants, Duval is a major factor on offense, as he can finish near the basket or draw fouls. Duval's quickness also enables him to be a plus perimeter defender since he has good size and length as well for a point guard. Size and quickness mean Duval can likely guard some bigger perimeter players and be flexible on the defensive end.
Recruiting Rundown: Nothing has changed with Duval's recruitment in regard to when he's committing, as a spring decision is still expected. But Duval did release a top five on Tuesday: Arizona, Baylor, Duke, Kansas and Seton Hall are the primary schools involved. It's tough to say where Duval's recruitment goes from here, but visits will potentially be the next step.
