Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys Betting Odds, College Football Pick

OddsShark.comSep 28, 2016

Home-field advantage doesn't mean much in the Texas-Oklahoma State rivalry, considering the visiting team is 8-1 straight up and 9-0 against the spread over the last nine meetings in the series. That trend seems to bode well for the Longhorns heading into Saturday afternoon's clash with the Cowboys in Stillwater.

Point spread: The Cowboys opened as three-point favorites, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. (Line updates and matchup report)

Why the Texas Longhorns can cover the spread

The Longhorns are 2-1 both SU and ATS this season and coming off their bye week, after suffering their first defeat of the season two weeks ago, a crazy 50-43 decision at Cal.

Texas spotted the Golden Bears an early touchdown, then scored 17 straight points to take a 10-point lead. They also led by scores of 24-14, 31-21 and 40-35 with 13 minutes to go. But the Longhorns defense just couldn't hold off Cal quarterback Davis Webb, who torched them for 396 yards passing and four touchdowns, including the game-winner with four minutes left.

On the night, Texas piled up 568 yards of offense—including 307 on the ground—grinding out 34 first downs, but lost the turnover battle 2-0.

The Longhorns have scored at least 41 points each time out this season; their fans are hoping they used their week off to set some things straight on defense.

Why the Oklahoma State Cowboys can cover the spread

The Cowboys are probably kicking themselves after blowing scoring opportunities in their 35-24 loss at Baylor last week. OSU played the Bears to a 21-21 tie midway through the third quarter, and trailed by just four heading into the fourth. The Cowboys then reached the Baylor 4-yard line, before being stopped on downs, then lost a fumble at the Bears' 1-yard line, and later, at least with a chance to cover as seven-point dogs, reached the Baylor 15-yard line, before running out of time.

On the evening, Oklahoma State racked up 492 yards of offense against a pretty good Baylor defense, out-first-downed the Bears 30-20 and held a lopsided 41-19 advantage in time of possession. But four turnovers proved costly.

Two weeks ago, the Cowboys defeated Pitt 45-38, and the week before that they had Central Michigan beat until the refs forgot the rules. So OSU should be 3-1.

Smart pick

The spread on this game indicates this one could go either way. Both teams can move it on offense, and both teams leave a little to be desired on defense. But Texas is a little more balanced in its attack and coming off a bye week. The value here lies with the Longhorns.

Betting trends

The visiting team is 9-0 ATS in its last nine games in this matchup.

Texas is 14-4 SU in its last 18 games against Oklahoma State.

Oklahoma State is 17-2 SU in its last 19 games in October.
