
College Football Recruits Who Dominated Stat Sheet in Week 2
College football teams returned to action for the 2016 season's second slate of games this weekend, supplying further indication of which programs may be primed for a strong push toward College Football Playoff contention. There's a long way to go as immense tests await in the weeks and months to come, though we continue to learn a little more with each snap.
The same can be said about top prospects, who are now fully underway with campaigns across the country. Several northern states started high school football seasons following Labor Day, while Battle on the Border in Shreveport, Louisiana, presented a showcase for multiple powerhouses.
In the aftermath of an extensive and highly entertaining stretch of high school football, our weekly examination of premier performances continues with a look at recruits who crushed their competition.
5-Star RB Cam Akers

Recruitment Status: Offers include Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Ohio State and Ole Miss
Cam Akers continues to command consideration as the country's most compelling offensive prospect, regardless of position. Though he takes snaps at quarterback for Clinton High School, collegiate coaching staffs covet his skill set elsewhere in the offensive backfield, and abundant carries could await Akers' arrival on campus.
The former Alabama Crimson Tide commit's latest foray provided further evidence of his rushing abilities, with an effort that featured five touchdowns on the ground, according to the Clarion-Ledger. A dominant effort extended to the aerial attack, as Akers completed 13 passes for 272 yards and another score in a 42-10 drubbing of Germantown High School.

Recruitment Status: Committed to TCU
The transition to DeSoto High School seems to be going splendidly for Elite 11 finalist Shawn Robinson, who transferred from fellow Lone Star State powerhouse Denton Guyer High School for his senior season. He erupted in his latest outing, according to Brian Perroni of 247Sports, tallying nearly 500 total yards in a 49-43 triumph over Midland High School.
Robinson, who pledged to the Horned Frogs in June 2015, erupted for 203 rushing yards on 18 carries, with three resulting in scores. He also showed off the powerful right arm that makes him such a dynamic offensive asset, compiling 17 pass completions for 276 yards and four touchdowns.

Size: 6'4", 190 lbs
Composite Ranking: No. 2 receiver; No. 15 overall
Recruitment Status: Offers include Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Oklahoma and Texas A&M
This big-bodied Louisiana standout served notice that he deserves a long look from analysts attempting to locate the top overall pass target of an impressive 2018 receiver class. Terrace Marshall made the most of his Battle on the Border experience, snagging four touchdown tosses in a wild 69-54 victory over Lufkin High School (Texas).
Marshall averaged approximately 39 yards per catch, according to Bleacher Report's Damon Sayles, turning six receptions into 233 yards. He's well on his way toward matching or even exceeding a breakout sophomore season that featured 1,343 receiving yards and 14 scores, creating a formidable duo with 4-star 2018 quarterback Justin Rogers (378 yards and five touchdown passes against Lufkin, per Sayles).

Recruitment Status: Committed to Alabama
Tua Tagovailoa turned heads this summer throughout his journey to Elite 11 MVP honors. Starring at the same high school where Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota once thrashed opponents, he hasn't lost any momentum through the early stages of a highly anticipated senior season.
A dangerous passer and runner, the lefty collected 551 total yards and nine touchdowns during a 64-44 victory over Punahou High School, according to Drew Champlin of AL.com, and he is less than 1,600 passing yards shy of the all-time Hawaii prep record. Tagovailoa highlighted a successful weekend for Crimson Tide commits, claiming headlines alongside 5-star running back Najee Harris (255 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries) and 4-star receiver Jerry Jeudy (131 yards and two scores on nine catches).

Size: 6'0", 202 lbs

Recruitment Status: Committed to USC
Stephen Carr continues to stake his claim as one of the West Coast's most explosive prospects, leaving a long list of defenders in his wake along the way. He accounted for 180 offensive yards, five touchdowns and a two-point conversion while leading Summit High School to a 36-25 win over San Gorgonio High School, according to Peter Marshall of the Press-Enterprise.
His performance featured a 73-yard score that came off a short reception and resulted in an early lead that Carr's squad wouldn't relinquish. He found the end zone on four other occasions as a rusher, including a two-yard plunge on fourth down that helped solidify the outcome by pushing Summit ahead by three scores.

Size: 5'9", 174 lbs
Composite Ranking: No. 41 athlete; No. 459 overall
Recruitment Status: Offers include Oregon and Oregon State
Though it remains rather early in the 2018 recruiting cycle, there's a growing case to be made that Trey Lowe could be due for a surge up rankings. The Portland playmaker carries scholarship offers from both in-state Pac-12 programs and likely put himself on the radar for universities beyond Oregon's borders with a seven-touchdown effort Friday night, according to Mike Tokito of the Oregonian.
The junior produced an eye-popping 337 rushing yards on just 18 carries, averaging 18.7 yards per touch. Lowe exploded for touchdown runs of 92, 84, 59, 33, 13 and five yards during a 56-19 win over Central Catholic High School, and he added a seventh score by returning an interception 96 yards, displaying his effectiveness on both sides of the ball.

Recruitment Status: Committed to Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish boast one of college football's most impressive quarterback depth charts, and coaches can look forward to eventually replenishing that stockpile with Phil Jurkovec. Freakishly athletic for a young player of his physical stature, he let his passing pedigree speak for itself Friday night while tossing five touchdowns in a 51-20 victory over Seneca Valley High School, per Don Rebel of MSA Sports Network.
Jurkovec completed 17 of 25 attempts for 367 yards, pushing him past 1,000 passing yards at this early stage of the season, per MaxPreps. Through three contests, the junior has totaled 1,258 yards (254 yards rushing), 14 touchdowns and just one interception.

Size: 6'4 ½", 188 lbs

Recruitment Status: Committed to Clemson
Clemson has developed quite a reputation for producing elite receiver talent under head coach Dabo Swinney, and Tennessee standout Tee Higgins has the makings of another impact Tigers pass-catcher. Higgins, a former Volunteers pledge who committed to Clemson on July 4 via Bleacher Report video, posted a dozen receptions Friday night, according to Mike Blackerby of the Knoxville News Sentinel.
Long and agile, this 5-star prospect presents matchup nightmares for opponents, and Anderson County High School simply couldn't contain him throughout a 48-34 Oak Ridge High School victory. Higgins racked up 135 yards on those 12 catches, which included three touchdowns, and he continues to build off a 2015 season that saw him secure 16 scores through the air.

Size: 6'2", 185 lbs

Recruitment Status: Offers include Boston College, Maryland, Rutgers, Temple and Wake Forest
Perhaps overlooked at times in a 2018 New Jersey quarterback class that includes 4-star recruits Artur Sitkowski and Allan Walters, this intriguing junior ensured everyone paid attention to his season opener. Devin Leary delivered six touchdown strikes during a 54-28 victory over Delsea High School, according to Kevin Minnick of the Courier-Post.
He came out firing Friday night, finding his receivers for five scores before halftime, and finished the game with 343 yards on 16 completions. Expect Leary, who impressed in April as a sophomore at the Elite 11 Washington, D.C., regional, to easily eclipse the career highs he set last season (2,605 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, per MaxPreps).

Grant Gunnell, the youngest member of this week's list, has swiftly ascended as a formidable force among Lone Star State quarterbacks. His latest performance featured eight total touchdowns, according to Brian Perroni of 247Sports, which is more than one-third of his 2015 scoring output (23 touchdowns).
Projected to be one of the tallest passers in his recruiting class, Gunnell connected on 28 of his 39 pass attempts in a 56-0 annihilation of Worthing High School. Along with 368 yards and seven scores through the air, he added a short-yardage touchdown run.
