Webster Done for the Year

Tuesday, Sept. 6

Even though the type of injury has not been disclosed yet, Webster announced via his Twitter on Tuesday that he will miss the rest of the season.

Webster was coming off a sophomore season in which he was a vital part of an Ole Miss defense that allowed just 22.6 points per game. He started every week, recording 41 tackles and one interception.

Heading into the 2016 season, he was expected to build even more off the solid 2015 campaign. Ole Miss cornerbacks coach Jason Jones told Antonio Morales of the Clarion-Ledger during training camp: "Ken, he’s had an incredible offseason. He’s worked his tail off all spring, all summer, in the weight room. You can see it in practice, the plays that he’s making."

On Monday night, Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois unleashed a deep ball for wide receiver Kermit Whitfield, who was covered by Webster. The cornerback leaped to try and break the play up, but an awkward landing saw his knee appear to shift out of place.

Webster needed to be carted off the field, leaving the Rebels secondary to be picked apart by Francois and Florida State.

In total, the redshirt freshman threw for 419 yards and two touchdowns on the night as Florida State overturned a 28-6 deficit on its way to a 45-34 victory.

After starting the season ranked No. 11 in the nation, the loss dropped Ole Miss to No. 19 after the Associated Press released its Week 2 poll on Tuesday.

Now without Webster, the Rebels will have to try and keep the secondary afloat with Tony Bridges, Carlos Davis and Jalen Julius, as their College Football Playoff hopes will only worsen if the pass defense continues to struggle.
