Colt Lyerla Arrested: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction on Former Oregon TE
Former Oregon Ducks tight end Colt Lyerla was arrested on Sunday for possession of heroin.
Per Tim Brown of the Oregonian, the Tigard Police Department arrested Lyerla in Washington County.
Lyerla played at the University of Oregon from 2011 to 2013. His best season was in 2012 when he had 25 receptions for 392 yards and six touchdowns.
During the 2013 season, Lyerla had serious off-field issues that led to his leaving the football program in October. He was arrested and pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, but he had to serve only one day of a 10-day prison sentence by working the remaining nine days on a road crew.
After hoping to get drafted into the NFL in 2014, Lyerla was given a chance to continue his football career when the Green Bay Packers signed him as an undrafted free agent. They waived him in August after he tore the MCL and PCL in his right knee during practice.
Lyerla has been playing in the Arena Football League. He was traded to the Portland Steel in March but was placed on the inactive reserve list.
The 23-year-old was part of the Oregon team that won the Pac-12 title and Rose Bowl in the 2011 season. He was also with the Ducks when they defeated Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl the following year.
