5-Star Dylan Moses Talks Recruitment, Decision Timeline and Post-Football Plans

Sanjay KirpalaniAug 29, 2016

LOGANVILLE, Ga. — Given that he's been in the recruiting spotlight since he was a freshman, 5-star linebacker Dylan Moses has always anticipated taking the next step in his journey through the game of football.

Most people assume that would require him to focus on his recruitment, but Moses has already mapped out his plans for life after football.

The nation's top-rated outside linebacker and the No. 4 player overall in the 2017 class plans to major in business with a minor in communications. He admits he'd like to try his hand in broadcasting, and his ultimate goal is a profession that would keep him close to the game he loves dearly.

"On top of that, I'd like to own and run my own training facility," Moses told Bleacher Report. "I'd like to work with all types of athletes, those getting ready for college and ones already in the pros. I'd really like to work with kids from the inner city or rural areas who don't have that type of support available to them."

Before that opportunity presents itself, Moses has a bright future ahead of him on the gridiron.

First up on his agenda is finishing his prep career.

The 6'2 ½", 235-pounder transferred from his native Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Florida prep powerhouse IMG Academy—which won its showdown against a loaded Grayson High School (Georgia) squad by a score of 26-7.

Moses said the move to IMG was about getting ready for the type of atmosphere he will see in college.

"Being able to transfer to IMG was a business decision," Moses told Bleacher Report. "It was for me to play against top-tier talent and get myself ready for college. It’s really about preparing myself for the next level."

With plans to enroll early at the school of his choice, Moses knows that the time to make a decision on where he will attend college is rapidly approaching.

LSU—the school to which he was once committed—is firmly in the mix to land his commitment. However, he's also scheduled official visits to see Alabama, Miami, Ohio State, Texas and UCLA:

When queried about which coaches he’s built strong relationships with throughout his recruitment, a few of the head coaches among that group of schools stood out.

"I'd say coach Nick Saban at Alabama," Moses said. "Coach Les Miles at LSU. Coach Charlie Strong at Texas. The head coach at USC [Clay Helton]. That’s pretty much it."

The two programs that have been linked to Moses from the beginning of his recruitment are SEC West titans Alabama and LSU. The Crimson Tide will get his first official visit on Oct. 1. However, the Tigers are considered the favorite to land him—as reflected by his 247Sports "crystal ball" page.

"That’s my home state," Moses said. "I think they should be really good this year. I have a really good relationship with the coaching staff, and I hope they have a really great season this year."

Moses plans to release a top three shortly after his official visits conclude and make a decision sometime in December. Whenever the time comes to make his final decision, one factor will take precedent in his thought process.

"It will come down to how comfortable I feel," he said. "I want to make the right decision for me and my family and everyone involved that has supported me and helped me get to this point."
