Milan were already trailing 3-2 to Napoli and down to nine men with little time remaining when the Italian defender—recently linked with a big-money move to Chelsea—accidentally diverted Lorenzo Insigne's pass toward his own net.
As ball and player closed in on the goal, Romagnoli reached out a hand and swiped it away before it crossed the line.
Jose Callejon tapped in his second goal, Napoli took a 4-2 lead that they would never relinquish and the referee produced a yellow card for "unsportsmanlike conduct" to add to the defender's woes.
