According to the Daily Mail's Simon Jones, West Ham paid FC Sion a £5.5 million fee for the Swiss midfielder.
Cousin of former Manchester City star Gelson Fernandes, the playmaker rose through the ranks at Sion.
Per Jones, the youngster had been described as "unsellable" by the president of the Swiss club.
He netted three goals and recorded six assists in all competitions last season and played twice against Liverpool in his eight UEFA Europa League outings.
Here are some of his best moments:
Fernandes often looks to get forward and can pick out a pass in the final third. He's willing to run at defences and, if given time and space, can wreak havoc in his opponents' back line.
The youngster has great potential, so it now falls to West Ham to unlock it.
West Ham have recruited Gokhan Tore and Sofiane Feghouli this summer and already boast Dimitri Payet in their starting lineup, so Fernandes isn't likely to enter the first team immediately.
Over the course of the season, there should be opportunities for him to come off the bench or rotate in for one of his more illustrious team-mates, though, so he may have a chance to shine this year.
