WWE SummerSlam 2016: Likeliest Heel and Face Turns at Event
As one of the biggest pay-per-views of the year, WWE SummerSlam 2016 is bound to feature drama at every corner.
That drama will come in many forms. It could be an unexpected result, it could be the crowning of a new champion or it could be something completely different.
Swerving the fans is part and parcel of professional wrestling, and Sunday will be no different. Looking through the card and the matches already confirmed to be taking place, it's obvious there is the potential for some turns on the night.
And while there may not be too many babyface turns, some shocking heel turns could take place this weekend.
Here's a look at the likeliest ones.
Naomi Turning Heel
1 of 3With Eva Marie's 30-day suspension confirmed by WWE on Thursday, it completely changes the dynamics of the slated six-man tag team match at SummerSlam.
She was scheduled to team up with Natalya and Alexa Bliss to take on Carmella, Becky Lynch and Naomi, who returned on SmackDown with a new look.
But with this likely to now be a handicap contest, it opens the possibility up for someone to turn heel and help Bliss and Natalya out. Of all the contenders, it simply has to be Naomi.
She's fairly fresh with her new gimmick, which means her character direction isn't completely set in stone yet.
She has prior experience working as a heel, and she did excel in that role in the past.
So if there is controversy in this match, expect it to involve Naomi turning heel.
Dolph Ziggler Turning Heel
2 of 3It's been a while since Dolph Ziggler's last run as a heel, and with the way things could play out this weekend, that could be about to come to an end.
Should Dean Ambrose pick up the victory and retain his WWE World Championship, then it creates the possibility of Ziggler reacting in a way that turns him heel again.
The build to this match has been hampered by no clear character role for either man, and Ziggler turning on Ambrose post-match by beating him down would help to elevate both after a shaky few weeks.
It would also mean Ziggler could stay in the title picture with fresh impetus, perhaps insisting on a regular basis that he doesn't care what the crowd thinks about him whatsoever.
Ziggler thrived as a heel once upon a time, and if the cards fall into place in the right way this weekend, he could find that form once again.
Finn Balor Turning Heel
3 of 3Of all the potential turns at SummerSlam this weekend, the likeliest has to come from Finn Balor.
The Demon King will take on Seth Rollins for the newly created WWE Universal Championship, and with fans still guessing who the winner will be, don't rule out some controversy.
That controversy could come when Balor is helped along to victory by some familiar faces on Sunday night, namely Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows.
The three men have a rich history together as Balor Club before they joined WWE, and with AJ Styles drafted to SmackDown away from the duo, it opens up the prospect of them joining forces once again on Raw.
Having Balor as a heel would naturally mean Rollins turning babyface, but that isn't impossible to believe given how popular he is from time to time.
Don't rule out controversy in the main event, and don't rule out a spectacular Balor heel turn.
