Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, A'ja Wilson Headline USA's 2026 Women's FIBA World Cup Roster

USA Basketball announced its 12-player squad as it tries to win the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup for the fifth straight time.

The Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark, Las Vegas Aces' A'ja Wilson, Atlanta Dream's Angel Reese and Dallas Wings' Paige Bueckers are among the headliners.

Wilson was the standout U.S. player four years ago. She was the team leader in points (17.2) and rebounds (7.5) en route to being named the World Cup MVP.

Since then, Wilson has put herself on an all-time GOAT trajectory by collecting two more WNBA titles and MVPs apiece. Another strong World Cup performance will only bolster her resume.

Sue Bird, the managing director for the women's national team, balanced youth and experience with her final roster.

Clark, Reese and Bueckers are among the four players set to represent the U.S. in a major tournament for the first time. The Fever's Aliyah Boston is the fourth.

Clark's omission from the 2024 Summer Olympics squad was a major talking point. As contentious as the decision was, it was a defensible call when she had logged just 12 WNBA appearances to that point and was struggling with the step up to the pros.

This time around, there was no question as to Clark's inclusion. She was the MVP of the spring's World Cup qualifiers, and she has averaged 21.5 points and 8.0 assists for the Fever this year.

History repeated itself to some degree with Minnesota Lynx rookie Olivia Miles getting snubbed in favor of guards with more experience.

Miles is arguably the strongest contender to deny Wilson's quest for a fifth MVP. She's averaging 19.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.8 rebounds, and the Lynx have the WNBA's best record (25-6).

Still, she'll likely have to wait for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles to suit up in a major international tournament.

The United States will head into the World Cup as the clear favorite.

The rest of the world is catching up to the U.S., as evidenced by France nearly forcing overtime in the gold medal game at the 2024 Olympics. Still, no other country can match the depth of the American talent pool.

Team USA will tip off its tournament on Sept. 4 against China, and group stage games against Italy (Sept. 6) and the Czech Republic (Sept. 7) will follow.
