Bruce Jordan-Swilling to Georgia Tech: Yellow Jackets Land 4-Star LB Prospect

Timothy RappAug 23, 2016

Bruce Jordan-Swilling, a 4-star outside linebacker from Brother Martin in New Orleans, committed to Georgia Tech on Tuesday.

He took to Twitter to announce the news:

Jordan-Swilling is considered the No. 7 player from the state of Louisiana, the No. 14 outside linebacker and the No. 176 player overall in the class of 2017, according to 247Sports.

While 247Sports has Jordan-Swilling ranked as an outside linebacker, Scout.com sees him as a running back at the next level:

"

Jordan-Swilling will get offers to play running back and linebacker, but on offense is where we like him best. At running back, he really his a nice blend of power and finesse. He has quick feet and he do a little dancing in the hole to make defenders before getting to the second level. He really sees the field well and he has a great feel when to cut-back. He is a bigger back and he is not easy to tackle. He can get those extra yards after initial contact. He is a back who has the ability to stay on the field due to his size, ability, and productivity.

"

Despite that analysis, Jordan-Swilling told Julie Boudwin of the Times-Picayune that he would play outside linebacker in college because it will allow his career to "last longer."

He was excellent at running back in 2015, however, rushing for 1,884 yards and 30 touchdowns. And he always planned to play the position during his senior season at Brother Martin, telling Boudwin, "I can't give it up just yet."

While his plan is to play linebacker in college, Georgia Tech may consider giving him snaps on both sides of the ball if Jordan-Swilling is interested. It wouldn't be unheard of—Shaq Thompson played linebacker and running back at Washington, while Owen Marecic played fullback and linebacker for Stanford.

But linebacker is in Jordan-Swilling's blood, as he mentioned in his tweet on Tuesday. His father, Pat Swilling, was a five-time Pro Bowler and the 1991 Associated Press NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Football is clearly in the family's blood—Jordan-Swilling's brother, Tre Swilling, is a 3-star cornerback prospect in the class of 2017, per 247Sports

Georgia Tech will certainly be happy to be adding part of that pedigree to its football program.
