Barcelona vs. Sevilla: Score, Reaction from 2016 Spanish Super Cup Leg 2

Rob BlanchetteAug 17, 2016

Barcelona added the Spanish Super Cup to their trophy haul after completing a 3-0 second-leg victory against Sevilla at the Camp Nou on Wednesday, giving Luis Enrique's side a 5-0 win on aggregate.

Arda Turan opened the scoring after 10 minutes and doubled his team's advantage straight after half-time. Lionel Messi claimed Barca's third goal with a looping header just before the hour mark as the hosts strutted to a convincing win.

Messi pummelled the Sevilla defence for the whole night, while Turan had his best game in a Barcelona shirt.

The Liga champions and Copa del Rey holders claimed a 2-0 victory in Sevilla on Sunday, with Messi and Munir El Haddadi netting in the first leg.

Former Sevilla player Aleix Vidal started at right-back for the Blaugrana, as Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne slotted into defence. Denis Suarez and Andre Gomes came in for their full debuts, while Munir and Turan operated with Messi in attack.

There were also a host of changes for Sevilla as Joaquin Correa, Ganso and Pablo Sarabia all came in for their first starts for the club in midfield, while new attacker Wissam Ben Yedder led the line.

The opener didn't take long to come, as Turan neatly slotted away his chance in the 10th minute, assisted by Messi. Barca carved through their opponents with remarkable ease as the Turkey international finished off a clinical move.

Sevilla had started the match in fine fettle but looked deflated after Turan's well-taken goal. Sky Sports Football provided footage of the player's finish:

Journalist Ben Hayward tipped his hat to the goalscorer, who suffered a lean period during his opening months in Catalonia:

Barcelona's Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo (L) stops a ball from a penalty kick by Sevilla's midfielder Vicente Iborra during the second leg of the Spanish Supercup football match between FC Barcelona and Sevilla FC at the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona

Sevilla slowly found their rhythm and gained a penalty after 30 minutes when Umtiti was punished for handling the ball, earning a yellow card for his troubles.

However, Vicente Iborra watched Barca goalkeeper Claudio Bravo save his effort as the home crowd cheered their No. 1. Football writer Sid Lowe lauded the Chile international for his heroics:

Gabriel Mercado watched as his looping header smashed the crossbar in the closing seconds of the first half, but the visitors lacked movement and inspiration.

Barcelona again punished Sevilla immediately after the break, as Turan added his second with a wonderful curling lob from distance. The attacker spotted goalkeeper Sergio Rico off his line and finished with aplomb to make it 2-0 on the night.

Sky Sports Football highlighted the inventive effort:

The home side claimed their third goal minutes later, when Messi climbed above his marker to nod his header in the far corner shortly before the hour mark.

Barca continued to dominate with a 5-0 aggregate lead intact, and Sevilla looked beaten long before the final whistle.

The second half unfolded into a sterile affair as the visitors appeared to accept their fate, as many sides do once they are behind at the Camp Nou.

The Blaugrana played at walking pace for the final 10 minutes with the job already complete, and the champions' dominance of Spanish football looks set to continue into the new campaign.

Post-Match Reaction

Enrique was delighted with his side's win after they deconstructed a good Sevilla team at the Camp Nou, per the club's official Twitter feed:
