2016 Premier League Betting Preview: Leicester Long Shot, Man City Chalk on Odds

OddsShark.comAug 12, 2016

Oddsmakers did not believe Leicester City could win the English Premier League last year, and they certainly do not think they can take home the title two years in a row.

The Foxes are listed at +3,000 to repeat (bet $100 to win $3,000) in 2016/17 at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark after they pulled off one of the biggest upsets ever in winning the Premier League title last season.

A change of coaches certainly helped Leicester win the championship last season, as Claudio Ranieri took over after Nigel Pearson was fired. But everything else just seemed to come together for a club that was nearly relegated to the Football League Championship a year previously following a poor performance in the EPL.

The Foxes jumped from 41 points two years ago to 81 last season, easily outdistancing three-time champion Arsenal, which finished second with 71. Arsenal is the +650 fourth choice to win the Premier League behind other multiple champions on the soccer betting lines at sportsbooks.

This year, Manchester City is the preseason favorite at +250 with Manchester United right behind at +300. The two have combined to win 15 of the 24 Premier League titles overall, although Manchester United is the winningest team of all time with a record 13 championships.

Last season, both squads totaled 66 points, and each hopes to bounce back with a much better campaign this year. Oddsmakers apparently have a lot of faith that they will.

Chelsea is the +550 third choice to win the EPL after a very disappointing run last season. The Blues placed 10th with just 50 points after winning their fourth title the previous year. Only Manchester United has won more championships than them.

Two more teams that have never won the Premier League are also ahead of defending champion Leicester City on the futures betting board. Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are both +800 to win the EPL this season. Spurs finished third last year with 70 points, while the Reds were eighth with 60.

In addition, Hull City is the favorite to be relegated as one of the three worst teams at a price of -150 (bet $150 to win $100) followed by Burnley at -110 and Middlesbrough at +150. Newcastle United, Norwich City and Aston Villa were relegated after last season.
