Schools to Watch After 4-Star Devodrick Johnson Decommitted from Texas A&M
The commitment lasted all of 25 days. Devodrick Johnson is an uncommitted target once again.
A 4-star athlete from Kimball High School in Dallas, projected to play outside linebacker in college, Johnson announced on Monday that he was decommitting from Texas A&M. Johnson gave the Aggies his verbal pledge on July 14 after taking an unofficial visit the same day.
He now is looking at other opportunities.

Johnson told E.J. Holland of 247Sports.com that the results of July's Chalk Talk clinic—where assistant coaches Jim Turner (offensive line) and Jeff Banks (special teams coordinator/tight ends) were suspended two weeks without pay and issued 20 hours of community service—played a role in his decision to reopen the process. The clinic, a football instructional event for women, featured slides that came across as inappropriate.
Texas A&M is now at 16 commits and, after also watching Creed Humphrey, a 4-star offensive lineman, flip to Oklahoma, is out of the top 10 nationally in 247Sports' composite team rankings. The Aggies also are once again without an outside linebacker pledge for their 2017 class.
For Johnson, the question now is, "What's next?"
Coincidentally, Johnson's decommitment came three days after taking an unofficial visit to the Texas Longhorns. He's told Bleacher Report in previous conversations that he's a big fan of the Longhorns and how they use their linebackers, but Texas has yet to offer the 6'1", 210-pound talent.
Johnson has 18 reported offers. If No. 19 comes from the Longhorns, would he commit? Possibly.
Johnson told Holland that while he's a fan of Texas, he still has a lot of love for Texas A&M. Another school to keep an eye on is Texas Tech. He had the Red Raiders in his top 10, which he released June 30 in a now-deleted tweet, and offensive assistant coach Emmett Jones is a former high school head coach in Dallas who has built solid relationships with athletes in the district.
Several other schools looking to be in the mix for Johnson include TCU, Houston, Oklahoma State and Missouri. The winning school will get a super-versatile athlete who can be effective at multiple positions at the next level.
For starters, Johnson is the quarterback for his high school. He threw for 990 yards and 12 touchdowns and also rushed for 580 yards and nine scores as a junior, according to the Dallas Morning News. Defensively, Johnson can play linebacker and safety and is looked at as a defensive college prospect because of his tenacity and ability to run sideline to sideline. He is ranked in the 247Sports composite as a top-20 outside linebacker nationally.
Look for Johnson to take his time with his recruiting process after parting ways with Texas A&M. Also, keep an eye on what Texas chooses to do. If the Longhorns offer, Johnson's time as an uncommitted target could be shortened.
