Odds on Where 4-Star WR Jerry Jeudy Commits

Sanjay KirpalaniJul 27, 2016

One of the premier playmakers in the 2017 cycle will come off the board on Thursday when 4-star receiver Jerry Jeudy announces his commitment, according to Ryan Bartow of 247Sports.

The 6’1”, 177-pounder from Deerfield Beach High School in Pompano Beach, Florida, will choose from a group of finalists that includes Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami and Tennessee.

Jeudy, who hauled in 41 receptions for 496 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior, has been one of the biggest standouts on the spring and summer camp circuit.

As Barton Simmons of 247Sports noted, Jeudy had a dominant showing at The Opening earlier this month.

Will the talented Sunshine State pass-catcher stay in state and play for one of the big three programs in Florida or will SEC heavyweights Alabama and Tennessee lure him away from home?

Let’s break down the odds for his finalists.

Tennessee: 15-1

Jeudy has taken at least three visits to Knoxville in the last year, with his latest visit coming a month ago for the Vols' Orange Carpet Day event, as noted by Ryan Callahan of 247Sports.

With head coach Butch Jones recently losing out on in-state 5-star receiver Tee Higgins—who picked Clemson over the Vols earlier this month—landing an elite pass-catcher such as Jeudy becomes a bigger priority.

The Vols have 23 commitments in the 2017 class, including pledges from three pure receivers.

With precious few spots left in their class, Jones and his staff would love to round out their receiver group with Jeudy.

Florida State: 12-1

Of his group of finalists, Florida State is the only program that hasn’t gotten a visit from Jeudy in the last month.

That doesn’t mean that the electric South Florida star is unfamiliar with the Seminoles program.

He’s made a pair of visits to Tallahassee and was also present for Florida State's spring game in Orlando, as reported by Josh Newberg of Noles247.

However, it appears as if head coach Jimbo Fisher and his staff are on the outside looking in with regards to holding momentum heading into Jeudy’s announcement.

Florida and Miami: 10-1

While Jeudy hasn’t been to Tallahassee recently, he was present for camps at both Miami and Florida earlier this month.

The Hurricanes are enjoying a bit of a resurgence under new head coach Mark Richt, and the thought of staying close to home could be appealing to Jeudy.

He was absolutely dominant at the Gators’ Friday Night Lights camp last week, as evidenced by this clip of him leaving a poor defensive back in the dust in the one-on-one portion of the event.

The Gators only have one receiver committed in their current class, while the Hurricanes already have three pass-catchers locked in.

Both programs could pitch Jeudy on the idea of coming in early and making an impact as a freshman. But will that be enough to keep him from leaving the state?

Alabama: 5-1

The one constant program among Jeudy’s list of favorites has been Alabama.

As BamaOnline’s Hank South detailed, the thought of following in the footsteps of former Tide All-American Amari Cooper and current star receiver Calvin Ridley—both of whom are South Florida natives—is appealing to Jeudy.

Another benefit for Tide head coach Nick Saban and his staff is the chemistry he enjoyed with 4-star quarterback and current Tide pledge Tua Tagovailoa at The Opening.

“[Jeudy] is an awesome player,” Tagovailoa said of his connection with Jeudy at The Opening. “That relationship couldn’t have started if I didn’t feed him the ball or if the coaches didn’t call plays for him.”

Heading into his announcement, the Crimson Tide are the heavy favorites, as reflected on his 247Sports Crystal Ball page.

While landing elite talents isn’t an easy feat, Saban and his staff appear primed to land another dynamic prospect in Jeudy when he makes his decision on Thursday.
