Sepp Blatter Undergoes Surgery to Treat Skin Cancer

Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter underwent minor surgery on his left ear to treat skin cancer and is reportedly in "fine" condition after he was released from the hospital Thursday.

Thomas Renggli, Blatter's spokesman, announced the news in an interview with the Associated Press, via NBC Sports. The 80-year-old returned home after staying the night in a hospital.

Blatter spent 18 years as FIFA president before Gianni Infantino replaced him in February. His exit was overshadowed by a series of controversies, and he's awaiting an appeal hearing after he was suspended from football-related activities for six years, per Sky Sports News:

Per the report, "Blatter spent several days in a hospital in Zurich last November after a stress-related collapse" during an ongoing investigation by Swiss prosecutors.

Blatter's legacy has taken a huge hit in recent years due to several investigations of FIFA officials' possible bribery and conflicts of interest, per the Guardian's David Conn.
