There is no doubt that France had a much tougher road to the final, whichcombined with a huge home-field advantageis why they are big favorites in this spot.

Led by the tourney’s top goal scorer in Antoine Griezmann, the French blanked Germany 2-0 in the semis as he scored two more times to bring his overall total to six.

It’s almost hard to believe now that France’s toughest match in the knockout stage came against Ireland in the round of 16, a 2-1 victory powered by two more Griezmann goals. In fact, five of his six goals have come in the knockout stage.

However, the Portuguese have also seen their star, Cristiano Ronaldo, come up extra large in their biggest games of the tournament.

Ronaldo had the first goal in a 2-0 victory against Wales in the semis and also scored on the first penalty kick in Portugal's 5-3 win over Poland in the quarters after the teams were tied at 1-1 following extra time.

Ronaldo last played in the Euro final as a 19-year-old in 2004 and came up on the losing end with Portugal falling 1-0 to host Greece. They also made it to the semifinals in 2012 and lost to eventual champion Spain 4-2 on penalty kicks, as Ronaldo finished in a tie for the tournament lead with three goals.

While the offenses for both countries will certainly be under the spotlight, it has been the defenses that have made the biggest impact for each so far and should be the difference here.

The Portuguese have only allowed one goal in their last three games combined following a 3-3 tie with Hungary in their Group F finale. The French gave up just one goal in Group A play and put together their best defensive performance of the tournament against the Germans.

The French need to put forth the same type of effort in the final to stave off Ronaldo and Portugal, and they will lean on their fans to provide them with just enough of a boost to earn the title in a close battle.

Prediction: France wins 2-1.
