Manu Ginobili Re-Signs with Spurs: Latest Contract Details, Comments, Reaction

Mike ChiariJul 7, 2016

Veteran guard Manu Ginobili is set to return for his 15th NBA season in 2016-17, and he will be returning to the San Antonio Spurs.

According to Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News, Ginobili's agent—Herb Rudoy—revealed his client intends to finalize a one-year deal with the Spurs Friday or Saturday.

Orsborn also reported that Rudoy said Ginobili turned down a "very serious, big offer" from another team in favor of returning to San Antonio.

While exact details of Ginobili's impending deal with the Spurs have yet to be revealed, the two-time All-Star made his return official Thursday with the following tweet:

Ginobili appeared in 58 games off the bench last season, averaging 9.6 points, 3.1 assists and 2.5 rebounds.

He has started just 10 games since the end of the 2010-11 season, sacrificing statistical production in favor of providing an offensive spark for the Spurs in a sixth-man role.

The soon-to-be 39-year-old Argentine isn't the same dynamic force he once was and is in the twilight of his career, but he remains a key contributor for a Spurs team that once again figures to be among the best in the Western Conference in 2016-17.

The four-time NBA champion brings invaluable experience to the table, and that intangible will be even more important if future Hall of Famer Tim Duncan opts to retire.

Although the play of Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Tony Parker will likely be the biggest determining factor in whether the Spurs win it all next season, Ginobili provides a backcourt dimension that San Antonio needs.
