Report: Kings, Pacers Discussing Trade Involving Gay
Saturday, July 2
On Saturday, Stein reported the Kings and Indiana Pacers have discussed a trade involving Gay. Stein added that Sacramento is targeting Monta Ellis in the deal but Indiana prefers to send Rodney Stuckey the other way.
According to Sam Amick of USA Today, however, a source indicated that the Kings are not interested in Ellis or Stuckey.
Stein also reported that Gay is among the most readily available veterans on the trade market, along with Milwaukee Bucks big man Greg Monroe.
Gay Would Bring Scoring Presence to New Team
While Gay has never been named to an All-Star team, he has been among the most consistent scorers in the NBA during his 10-year career with the Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors and Kings.
Although the 17.2 points he averaged per game last season were his least since he put up 10.8 per contest as a rookie in 2006-07, Gay pulled down a career-high 6.5 rebounds per game and shot 46.3 percent from the field, which was his best mark since 2010-11.
Gay would add a scoring punch and veteran presence to any team he joins, but parting with him would leave a void at small forward.
