Celtics Call On Tom Brady to Help Recruit Kevin Durant to Boston
NBA teams are pulling out all the stops when it comes to recruiting Oklahoma City Thunder free agent Kevin Durant.
The Golden State Warriors brought Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, according to the Associated Press' Cliff Brunt (via ABC News). The Los Angeles Clippers invited Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, according to ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne and Arash Markazi (via Sports Illustrated). The San Antonio Spurs had LaMarcus Aldridge, according to the San Antonio Express-News' Jeff McDonald.
The Boston Celtics called upon...Tom Brady?
Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe confirmed with league sources that along with a couple of their current players, the Celtics brought the New England Patriots quarterback along for the Durant meeting. As we have seen through the years, Boston athletes (such as Rob Gronkowski and David Ortiz, for example) develop tight bonds.
And that was on full display Saturday, in a Snapchat image Justin Goldman (goldie1998) took (h/t Reddit).
Durant will likely base his decision on where he believes he has the best chance to win championships. Obviously, a football player has no impact on that, but given that Brady is Durant's favorite athlete, according to Himmelsbach, this was a good move by the Celtics.
Patriots defensive tackle Terrance Knighton certainly believes including Brady was wise:
Had the Boston Red Sox not had a game Saturday night, perhaps Big Papi would have been able to make it to the meeting as well:
