Famous Icelandic Commentator Loses Job as Assistant Manager of KR Reykjavik
From hero to zero in a matter of days—that's been the story for Gudmundur Benediktsson.
Benediktsson ensured the world knew his name (or, at least, his voice) last week when he descended into fits of squealing joy after Iceland grabbed a last-minute winner in a 2-1 win over Austria in Paris on Wednesday.

But, the Guardian reported, his new-found fame hasn't saved his day job.
Benediktsson had to return home shortly after his country's historic result to continue his day job as assistant manager of local club KR Reykjavik, who currently sit ninth in Iceland's first division: the Urvalsdeild.
And after a defeat to 10th-placed Iþrottabandalag Akraness on Thursday, the club decided to part ways with both Benediktsson and manager Bjarni Gudjonsson Eggert.
The now-jobless Benediktsson is expected to return to France for Monday night's round-of-16 tie against England.

The world patiently awaits his next move—Monday Night Football, perhaps?
