SEC Releases Statement on Twitter Account Hack
The SEC's official Twitter account was hacked Saturday, resulting in images of scarcely clothed women appearing on the account.
According to ESPN.com's Darren Rovell, SEC spokesman Herb Vincent said the conference took action to correct the issue: "We became aware of it when we saw some retweets. The images were removed immediately, our password changed and we notified Twitter. We will, of course, continue to monitor the account closely today."
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey also apologized for the inappropriate photos prior to the conference's account being properly restored:
The SEC hack came just a few weeks after the NFL's Twitter account was hacked and a false tweet was sent out claiming that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had died.
There has not yet been any indication the two hacks are related, but both the SEC and NFL Twitter accounts are now back to normal.
