Copa America Schedule 2016: Semi-Final Times, TV Info and Predictions

Tom SunderlandJun 21, 2016

The Copa America Centenario is nearing fever pitch as the hosts, the United States, head into Tuesday's semi-final hoping to derail tournament favourites Argentina at Houston's NRG Stadium.

On Wednesday, Colombia and Chile—runners-up in Group A and Group D, respectively—will collide in a battle at Chicago's Soldier Field that sees one team just rediscovering their form face another struggling to find any.

Chile throttled Mexico 7-0 in their quarter-final clash on Saturday in a tactical duel that went awry for El Tri, while Colombia's 4-2 penalty-shootout win over Peru on Friday showcased some of their struggles of late.

Chile Reopen the Floodgates Against Colombia

Chile have amassed 11 goals in their last two games, and the crushing 7-0 victory over Juan Carlos Osorio's Mexico on Saturday was a result few predicted.

That being said, RMC contributor Philippe Auclair insisted the embarrassment could have been even worse for El Tri after Eduardo Vargas' quadruple led the fanfare for La Roja:

Colombia, on the other hand, have been struggling to find their groove, and after losing 3-2 to Costa Rica in their final group game on June 11, it was goalkeeper David Ospina's penalty-saving heroics that led them through to the last four at the expense of Peru, per Yahoo's Kristan Heneage:

Chile face the prospect of going up against pool opponents Argentina should they make it to the final, where they would have the opportunity to redeem themselves after the 2-1 defeat they suffered in their opening game on June 6.

However, separating them from that matchup is a Colombia side that have rediscovered some of their defensive properties in the quarter-final stalemate against Peru but is far from impenetrable.

Prediction: Colombia 1-2 Chile

Argentina End the United States' Home Run

Argentina were at their best in the 4-1 quarter-final win over Venezuela.

The 2016 Copa America has been a special occasion for the hosts this year, and the United States have revelled in their run as the first nation to stage the competition outside South America.

However, the old adage insists all good things come to an end, and after Argentina's Lionel Messi got on the scoresheet in his side's 4-1 hammering of Venezuela on Saturday, Jurgen Klinsmann's side face the biggest threat in the contest:

U.S. captain Michael Bradley is fully aware that La Albiceleste will present a major challenge, but he told the media his side are ready to combat the whirlwind coming to meet them, per ESPN FC's Doug McIntyre:

"

We don't want to make this out to be mission impossible. It's 90 minutes, it's a semifinal, it's a chance to get into a final.

Whoever is sharper and has more guys play well, compete at a high level and understand the moment. That's typically what team is going to have a better chance to win.

[...]

To play in the biggest games, to play in the toughest moments when everything is on the line, that's ultimately what we all want. That's what it's all about. The chance to play in the semifinal of Copa America, on our home soil, against a big team like Argentina is an incredible opportunity.

"

The United States will garner a significant majority of the support in Houston this Tuesday, but Argentina's quality on the pitch is still proving itself to be a cut above the rest.

With Messi back in the team and inspiring at optimum levels, the Stars and Stripes may struggle to cope with the pace of their opponents, who can end a 23-year major silverware drought in Sunday's final.

Prediction: United States 1-3 Argentina
