Details on the Armenian's contract have yet to emerge, but Mike Keegan of MailOnline reported on July 1 that Mkhitaryan would sign a long-term deal after arriving for a fee in the region of £26 million. The Manchester Evening News' Samuel Luckhurst provided more insight into Mkhitaryan's deal on Monday, courtesy of German newspaper Bild:

"

Mkhitaryan will earn close to €58m over four years, taking the total cost of the deal over the €100m mark.

  • Mkhitaryan will receive a signing on bonus worth €8m
  • His annual wage with total €12.5m or €240,000-a-week
  • The contract runs until 2020
  • The total value of the deal (fee and wages) is exactly €100m before bonuses

So, he could cost United £83m.

"

Mkhitaryan had three years at Dortmund, with the 2015-16 campaign his finest. He scored goals and provided assists in abundance, and his creativity should be a huge asset in tackling United's attacking issues, per Sport Witness' Tom Coast:

He emerged as one of the best footballers in the Bundesliga last term, and as this clip illustrates, he conjured a lot of memorable moments:

The most exciting side of Mkhitaryan’s game is his quality on the ball. For Dortmund, he showed his best form when stationed on the right flank, able to dart infield, evade the attention of central midfielders and pick holes in opponents' defensive structures.

He can cause problems in plenty of ways. The former Shakhtar Donetsk man can play penetrating passes when given time to lift his head, but should defenders get too tight to him, his quick feet and technical quality often see him wriggle out of congested areas of the field.

Last season, Mkhitaryan bagged 15 assists in the German top flight alone. These numbers from WhoScored.com are a further testament to the creative talents of the player:

Changing clubs will pose something of a challenge for the Armenia international. During his early days at Dortmund, there were some signs he was struggling to adapt to a new way of playing, which may be a slight concern for United supporters.

Nevertheless, Mkhitaryan seems to have the skill set to succeed in the Premier League. Not only is he a cerebral player, he’s also happy to contribute off the ball. In a pressing system, he’s adept at winning possession back high up the pitch and setting up attacks. That blend of fire and finesse will be a huge asset for Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho.

The sale is a big blow for Dortmund. They have already lost Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels this summer, and while they are used to moving on key men, to lose so many in the space of one transfer window will be tough for manager Thomas Tuchel.

Mkhitaryan's is arguably the most significant departure, as he was at the crux of so many of the brilliant displays that the team turned in last season.

United must find a way to ensure he is as effective in their colours. Do that, and after the recent confirmation of Zlatan Ibrahimovic's arrival at Old Trafford, Mourinho will be in possession of one of the most eye-catching attacking outfits in the English top flight.
