An England supporter has reportedly been left with brain injuries after being attacked by Russia fans at the 2016 UEFA European Championship.

That's according to the Press Association, who posted the following bulletin on Monday with details of the 50-year-old's condition:

Trouble flared before, during and after the clash between the two teams in Marseille, France, on Saturday, with the contest finishing in a 1-1 draw. The incidents prompted UEFA to issue a warning to both teams that they could be kicked out of the competition if fan behaviour doesn't improve.

Per BBC News, Marseille prosecutor Brice Robin has revealed that 150 Russian fans were "behind" the violence.

"These people [the Russians] were well-prepared for ultra-rapid, ultra-violent action," he told a media briefing. "These are extremely well-trained people."

It was also confirmed a 16-year-old Briton was arrested, along with six others, with 35 people said to have been injured in the clashes. Two Russian fans are reported to have been arrested for invading the playing surface, with a further two facing expulsion from the country.

Despite the unsavoury scenes, one Russian MP refused to condemn the violence—quite the contrary, in fact, per the Guardian's Shaun Walker:

Per BBC, according to witnesses, trouble started inside the Stade Velodrome when Russia supporters let flares off before scaling barriers to confront a section of England fans. Before the match, both sets of fans as well as local hooligans were also involved in violent exchanges in the city.

BBC Sport's Dan Roan captured the scenes inside the stadium:

In the aforementioned statement, UEFA admitted to "segregation issues" inside the Marseille venue, per Owen Gibson of the Guardian.

As well as the incidents in Marseille, there were incidents between supporters prior to Germany's match with Ukraine in Lille on Sunday. According to German news agency SID, via Suddeutsche Zeitung (h/t Stephan Uersfeld of ESPN FC), two fans were hurt as a result of the violence.
