Copa America 2016: Monday Group Times, Odds, Live Stream and TV Schedule

James DudkoJun 13, 2016

Mexico can seal the top spot in Group C of the 2016 Copa America Centenario by beating Venezuela at Houston's NRG Stadium on Monday. Both teams have earned berths in the quarter-finals, but clinching first place can assure a softer draw in the last eight.

The group's other game is a dead rubber between already eliminated Jamaica and Uruguay at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Naturally, both teams have failed to deliver, but it's talented and underachieving Uruguay who rate as the bigger disappointment.

Before a preview, here is the schedule and viewing details for both matches, along with odds, per Odds Shark.

Mexico vs. Venezuela

Although El Tri have made it through, not everybody has been impressed with the manner of their progress. In particular, ESPN FC's Tom Marshall bemoaned a vulnerability at the back that saw Jamaica create more than one promising chance last time out.

Marshall quoted veteran centre-back Rafael Marquez pinpointing the source of Mexico's defensive problems: "We made mistakes playing out the back, and that is where their chances came from."

Marquez has highlighted one area where Mexico are struggling.

That's a reasonable complaint, but this is still a team at its best when keeping the ball on the deck and playing from front to back. So it's not a case of altering the approach, but refining it.

At least Mexico can rely on a varied attack featuring a host of talents along the forward line. Strikers Javier Hernandez and Oribe Peralta offer pace and power, while midfield playmaker Andres Guardado provides plenty of guile.

Yet, it's Jesus Corona who needs to improve after failing to find the net during his country's first two games at the tournament, per ESPN FC's Nayib Moran. The jet-heeled winger must vary his runs to ghost off the flank and attack central areas more often, where Guardado's vision can find him.

But it won't be easy to break down a Venezuela defence that has yet to be breached at this Copa. At the other end, towering target man Salomon Rondon is likely to cause Marquez and Co. a host of problems, particularly in the air.

Rondon is in fine form.

Ultimately, though, El Tri should have just enough quality to claim top spot in the group.

Prediction: Mexico 2-1 Venezuela

Uruguay vs. Jamaica

It will be interesting to see how interested Uruguay are in salvaging some pride after their ill-tempered exit following defeat to Venezuela.

Star striker Luis Suarez was most notably left perturbed by this disappointment, engaging in a violent strop in the dugout, according to Sky Sports. Barcelona forward Suarez has struggled for playing time after entering the tournament carrying an injury.

Holding him back is a choice manager Oscar Tabarez defended, per BBC Sport: "The player is not fit to play. I will not select a player who is not 100 percent. Was he angry? I am not aware. He told me nothing."

Tabarez may have a point, but Suarez might've been worth the risk, considering how much Edinson Cavani has struggled. Grup 14 editor Alex Truica took the Paris Saint-Germain striker to task after his misfiring night against Venezuela:

If there's one thing Uruguay's early exit has proved, it's just how reliant this squad is on Suarez.

Prediction: Uruguay 1-0 Jamaica
