3 Bayern Munich Youngsters Who Should See Playing Time in 2016/17 Season

Clark WhitneyMay 26, 2016

Bayern Munich saw two up-and-coming talents emerge in their squad during the 2015/16 campaign as Joshua Kimmich and Kingsley Coman defied the odds in becoming regular players for the German giants despite having established stars to compete against.

Next season, Bayern should also have an extremely competitive squad. It's to be expected for a team of their caliber. Yet there is always room for talent at any club, and that perhaps is why the Bavarians recently committed (per Transfermarkt) a whopping €35 million to sign 18-year-old Renato Sanches from Benfica.

Despite the Bayern team becoming more and more competitive, the success stories of Kimmich and Coman suggest there may be hope for rising starlets from the Bavarians' youth academy. Click "Begin Slideshow" to see the Bayern academy players B/R has picked out as potential first-team players next season.

Christian Fruchtl

Christian Fruchtl may have only turned 16 in late January, but his limited years didn't prevent him from earning a call up to the senior Bayern team for their winter training camp in Qatar. The youngster must have impressed on Bayern's under-17 side, at least enough to be given a chance in the senior squad.

Standing at 1.90 meters, according to Transfermarkt, Fruchtl already has the frame to play in goal. The question is whether he'll be given a chance to play. Bayern already has Sven Ulreich and Tom Starke as potential backups for Manuel Neuer, but neither of the substitutes look to have any remaining untapped potential.

Fruchtl has his entire career ahead of him, so manager Carlo Ancelotti might be willing to give him a chance at some point during the 2016/17 campaign. If Gianluigi Donnarumma managed to break into the Milan first team as a 16-year-old last season, maybe Fruchtl can get a few games at Bayern in the coming campaign.

Fabian Benko

Fabian Benko was first called up to the senior Bayern side in summer training a year ago, shortly after celebrating his 17th birthday. He impressed then-manager Pep Guardiola during the preseason match against Inter Milan in particular and, for his efforts, was given his first professional contract in September.

Benko is a left-winger with plenty of talent in his left foot. He typically plays wide, where his crossing ability is uncanny. But he also is a very proficient dribbler and has a powerful shot for a player of his age.

There is plenty of competition for playing time on the wings at Bayern, and Benko faces an uphill challenge. But if he puts his best foot forward, the youngster just might be given a chance with the senior side in the 2016/17 campaign.

Niklas Dorsch

Niklas Dorsch is probably the best over-18 talent Bayern has. A central midfielder of great technical ability and passing range, the youngster has been likened in style to Toni Kroos and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Bayern has great confidence in Dorsch, who was given a professional contract last September. He was invited to train with the senior team during their January training camp in Qatar, and Guardiola even brought him on as a substitute in a friendly against Karlsruhe.

The youngster made a good impression of himself in that game. Jerome Boateng, per Bild (in German), praised him as the most aggressive player on the pitch.

Dorsch only recovered from a serious ankle injury last fall, and missed a significant portion of the spring due to an operation. But if he regains fitness and form, he has all the potential to play a part in Bayern's 2016/17 campaign.
