Thompson Becomes 1st Player with 7 Treys in Consecutive Playoff Games
Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson caught fire over the final two contests of an opening-round series against the Houston Rockets, becoming the first player in NBA postseason history to drain seven three-pointers in consecutive games, per Elias Sports Bureau (via NBA History on Twitter).
Notably, this two-game effort came on the heels of an ugly Game 3 performance in which Thompson missed all seven of his shots from beyond the arc.
The Warriors, of course, are already quite familiar with historic performances from downtown, as Thompson and fellow guard Stephen Curry have been prolific in recent seasons.
In Game 2 of the 2013 Western Conference Semifinals against the San Antonio Spurs, Thompson drained eight shots from distance, tied for second most in NBA playoffs history in a single game.
Also part of that group is Curry, who accomplished the feat in Game 6 of the 2015 Western Conference Semifinals against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Last season, Curry set the NBA record for most three-pointers made (98) in a single postseason run while Thompson concurrently sank 57, tied with Ray Allen for third most in playoff history.
To put Curry’s 2015 playoff performance in perspective, Reggie Miller ranks second at just 58.
The record for most three-pointers in an individual playoff game is nine, shared by Jason Terry, Vince Carter, Rex Chapman, and Ray Allen (who did it twice).
With Curry sidelined for the start of a Western Conference Semifinals series against the Portland Trail Blazers, it's quite possible Thompson could make a run at the record.
