Atlanta Hawks vs. Boston Celtics: Live Score, Analysis for Game 4

Matthew SchmidtApr 24, 2016

Two years ago, the Boston Celtics were one of the NBA's bottom feeders. Now, they are a part of what may be the best first-round series in this year's playoffs.

Isaiah Thomas scored 28 points, Marcus Smart added 20 off the bench and the Celtics rallied from 16 down to defeat the Atlanta Hawks, 104-95, in an overtime thriller at TD Garden at Sunday night, tying up their first-round Eastern Conference playoff series at two games apiece.

This may have been the best game of the postseason thus far, and it also probably featured the best individual performance.

Paul Millsap poured in 45 points for the Hawks, almost single-handedly putting his team up 62-46 early in the third quarter.

But, as has been the case this entire season, Boston did not give in.

The C's proceeded to go on a 24-11 run to end the period, trimming Atlanta's lead to three heading into the final frame.

That was when Marcus Smart took over.

Smart scored 11 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter and was also used as the primary defender on Millsap. The stocky 6'4" guard stymied Millsap, reversing the momentum. He also hit two enormous three-pointers that sent the home crowd into a frenzy.

Then, late in the fourth, Jeff Teague hit back-to-back triples to give the Hawks a 92-90 lead with 20 seconds remaining. Thomas then proceeded to tie the game with a layup with 15 ticks left, and Atlanta did not get a shot off before the buzzer.

The Celtics outscored the Hawks 12-3 in overtime and never trailed in the extra session.

Game 5 is on Tuesday at Philips Arena.
