Twitter Reacts as Leicester Beat Swansea to Close in on Premier League Title

Tom WebbApr 24, 2016

Leicester City moved to within five points of the Premier League title with a comfortable 4-0 win over Swansea City on Sunday.

Prior to kick-off, the King Power Stadium was a hive of anticipation:

"

Leicester stadium announcer, who is almost hoarse, bellows out "DILLY DING! DILLY DONG!" just as teams emerge. Terrific noise.

The suspended Jamie Vardy was replaced by Leonardo Ulloa in the Foxes starting XI:

"

21 - Jamie Vardy's goals have won Leicester 21 points this season, more than any other Premier League player. Missing.

Leicester took the lead after just 10 minutes when Ashley Williams' hashed clearance allowed Riyad Mahrez to beat Lukasz Fabianski in the Swansea goal:

"

Leicester take another step closer. Mahrez with a cool finish after Williams error. 10 mins 1-0

— Oliver Kay (@OliverKayTimes) April 24, 2016"
"

Williams presented it to him on a plate, but Mahrez gave Fabianski the eyes beautifully.

It's fair to say that fans of Leicester's closest challengers, Tottenham Hotspur, weren't too impressed by some of the defending:

It was 2-0 half an hour when Danny Drinkwater's free-kick found the head of Ulloa:

"

2-0. Drinkwater's free-kick from the left glanced home by Vardy's stand-in Ulloa. Nerves well and truly settled.

— Tom Williams (@tomwfootball) April 24, 2016"
"

No team in the Premier League works harder than Leicester, but they haven't had to sweat for that 2-0 lead (Mahrez, Ulloa). Swansea insipid

— Oliver Kay (@OliverKayTimes) April 24, 2016"
"

Only one way to describe Leicester’s performance today…

“Diddly ding, diddly dong” 😂

From there it was something of a procession, with Ulloa adding his second on the hour mark:

"

Bedlam, Ulloa bundles in at the far post and it's 3-0 to Leicester City. This has been a nerveless performance. Ranieri pumps his fists.

— Phil McNulty (@philmcnulty) April 24, 2016"
"

3-0 Leicester. Schlupp runs from halfway and, at the second attempt, crosses for Ulloa to slide in his second goal. Game over.

"

Beautiful. Just beautiful.

— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) April 24, 2016"

Spurs fans still weren't happy:

Substitute Marc Albrighton made it four with five minutes remaining:

"

4-0 for Leicester. Albrighton. They've been relentless this afternoon. First time they've scored four in a game since August

— Oliver Kay (@OliverKayTimes) April 24, 2016"

Foxes everywhere were loving it:

"

"4-0 to the one-man team!" sing Leicester fans.

— Tom Williams (@tomwfootball) April 24, 2016"
"

"4-0 to the one-man team" chant Leicester City's fans. Assume the one man is Vardy rather than Mahrez or Kante.

"

Claudio Ranieri's side completed the straightforward victory without their top scorer:

It finished 4-0, a result that takes Leicester another step closer to an unprecedented Premier League triumph:
