Twitter Reacts as Manchester City Beat PSG to Reach Champions League Semi-Finals
Manchester City are into the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the first time in their history after a hard-fought 1-0 (3-2 aggregate) win over Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad Stadium.
The visitors started the game lining up in an unfamiliar 3-5-2 formation:
"Pretty sure this is the first time this season that PSG have lined up with a back three.

"PSG in 3-5-2 geared towards getting best out of Di Maria. Aurier actually quite a solid CB but still... What a time to experiment. #MCIPSG

While the home supporters continued their tradition of booing the UEFA anthem:
"I am delighted to report sustained and gleeful booing of the UEFA anthem.
— Iain Macintosh (@iainmacintosh) April 12, 2016"
"Some ask why City fans boo Champs Lge anthem - protesting how UEFA sanctioned club over FFP primarily
— Rob Harris (@RobHarris) April 12, 2016"
"Like: UEFA boos, PSG jackets.

"Genuinely think that booing the Champions League anthem is one of the most pointless actions ever. Just enjoy the sick tune #thechaaaampions

City had the game's first chance when Kevin Trapp brought down Sergio Aguero in the area, only for the Argentinian to stick his effort wide:
"Sergi... Oh.

"Gotta at least hit the target, Sergio Aguero. pic.twitter.com/35gZVRTG2z
— Bleacher Report UK (@br_uk) April 12, 2016"
"Aguero one of finest players in a one-on-one and yet, like Messi, Maradona, Baggio etc etc... a high-profile peno miss. It's odd that.

"Man City fans looking at Aguero like... pic.twitter.com/qvKohxcpL0

"2 - Sergio Aguero has missed two of his last three penalties in the CL for Man City after scoring each of the previous five for them. Wide.
— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) April 12, 2016"
"Aguero has scored 11/14 pens (79pc) in league games since 2010. His 3 misses? One central, 2 to right. Always scores on natural side
— Ben Lyttleton (@benlyt) April 12, 2016"
Other than that, it was an uneventful first half:
"That first half was as bad as Aguero's penalty #MCIPSG
— Simon Johnson (@sjstandardsport) April 12, 2016"
"1 - There was only one shot on target in the first half of Manchester City - Paris Saint-Germain (0 for City, 1 for PSG). Misfiring.
— OptaJohan (@OptaJohan) April 12, 2016"
"An hour gone in a game where they have to score, and PSG have had just two shots, both from long-range frees.
— Miguel Delaney (@MiguelDelaney) April 12, 2016"
PSG were particularly unimpressive:
"Hiddink will be wishing Chelsea had played this PSG. Ravaged by injuries, unbalanced & with Agent Aurier in the backline #cfc
— Liam Twomey (@liam_twomey) April 12, 2016"
"If this is the best European football has to offer, I might vote to leave the union. Absolute dross.
— Tony Hodson (@tonyhodson1) April 12, 2016"
"For 75 minutes tonight, PSG have played more like the champions of League One than Ligue 1
— Greg Stobart (@gstobart) April 12, 2016"
The second half continued much like the first, until the 76th minute when Kevin De Bruyne put City ahead with a fine finish from just outside the box:
"Manchester City 1-0 PSG (De Bruyne) pic.twitter.com/xH1WrAm3al
— Bleacher Report UK (@br_uk) April 12, 2016"
"What a goal. What a player.
— Miguel Delaney (@MiguelDelaney) April 12, 2016"
"1-0 City. De Bruyne, who has been excellent, curls into bottom-right corner from edge of the box. PSG need two goals.
— Tom Williams (@tomwfootball) April 12, 2016"
"De Bruyne is such a precise striker of the ball, so good at finding the corner of the goal through a crowded area in the blink of an eye
— Sam Wallace (@SamWallaceTel) April 12, 2016"
"2 - Kevin De Bruyne has scored with both of his shots on target for Man City in this tie against Paris SG. Hero.
— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) April 12, 2016"
It finished 1-0 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate, ensuring City's maiden progress to the last four of Europe's premier competition:
"1-0 FT 3-2 agg.
