According to a spokesperson at the Putra Specialist Hospital, where Petrovski was being treated, he died at 4:40 p.m. on Sunday, per Allison Worrall of the Sydney Morning Herald.
It's noted in the report that while the teenager had been showing positive signs, his condition had worsened recently. "Scans revealed Cerebral Hypoxia Ischemia, caused by a lack of oxygen supplied to the brain," Worrall noted.
As reported by Aaron Flanagan of the Daily Mirror, the Malacca United stopper "was knocked unconscious and had to be resuscitated by the club's medical staff before being taken to hospital" after the lightning strike on April 5.
According to Worrall his team-mate Muhd Afiq Azuan, who was also involved in the freak incident, was stabilised after regaining consciousness.
Petrovski's former club, Sydney Olympic, revealed their sadness at the news:
As did Negeri Sembilan's Taylor Regan:
The ‘keeper joined the Malaysian Premier League side last season from the Australian club and received national citizenship, meaning he fitted the local player quota.
