Kevin Durant Doesn't Like His Teammates Having Their Colleges in Final Four
Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder contend for the NBA title nearly every season, but when it comes to his college team, Final Fours have been few and far between.
The same can't be said about some of his teammates' alma maters, however. And that doesn't sit too well with Durant.
Durant was named to the All-American team and won the Naismith College Player of the Year award in his only season with the Texas Longhorns in 2006-07. As good of a freshman campaign as he had, he was only able to lead his Longhorns to a first-round win over New Mexico State before USC knocked them out.
That was his only NCAA tournament appearance. One win, no Final Four.
Things have turned out pretty well for Durant since he left Austin, as he is a perennial All-Star and won the 2013-14 NBA MVP Award. His Longhorns, however, are a different matter.
Texas has reached the Sweet 16 just once since Durant left, when it made the Elite Eight in 2008. As a result, March Madness has been more like March Sadness for the Oklahoma City star. Meanwhile, Thunder players like Randy Foye (Villanova) and Dion Waiters (Syracuse) get to watch their teams play in the Final Four this weekend.
You better believe that gives them bragging rights.
Durant made it clear, via KFOR's Dylan Buckingham, that he has no regrets about being a one-and-done player. As much as he would've liked to have played in the Final Four, the path he chose has been great. He knows he has to wait until Texas makes a deep run in the Big Dance before he can talk smack to his teammates about college basketball.
