Twitter Reacts as Alexandre Pato Scores and Chelsea Thrash Woeful Aston Villa

Tom WebbApr 2, 2016

Aston Villa's disastrous season sunk to further lows on Saturday when they lost 4-0 at home to Chelsea.

The Blues named an experimental starting XI, which saw 20-year old American Matt Miazga make his debut in the centre of defence.

But it was another debutant, Alexandre Pato, who received the most attention when he replaced the injured Loic Remy after 23 minutes:

It didn't take long for the Brazilian to make an impact, as he was involved in the move that resulted in Ruben Loftus-Cheek putting Chelsea ahead:

"

Good finish from RLC but the real delight was the silky footwork from Mikel before he released Azpi out wide. Where did that come from? #CFC

Pato himself was on target shortly after, winning and converting a penalty just before half-time:

Guus Hiddink's side made it 3-0 one minute into the second half when Pato played in substitute Oscar, whose cut-back was swept home by Pedro:

It was another depressing day for Villa's loyal but disillusioned supporters:

It was 4-0 after 59 minutes when Brad Guzan spilled Pato's tame shot and Pedro turned in the rebound from a tight angle:

"

Pato shot spilled by Guzan-Pedro makes it four...boos get louder from Villa fans and more chants of 'you're not fit to wear the shirt'. #cfc

With the three points secured, Hiddink gave another debut, this time to 18-year-old defender Jake Clarke-Salter:

"

That's three debuts today. Guus wasn't lying about experimenting.

— Garry Hayes (@garryhayes) April 2, 2016"

Things got worse still for Villa when Alan Hutton was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a nasty challenge on Loftus-Cheek:

"

Loudest cheer of the day from the home fans comes as Alan Hutton walks off the pitch after being sent off.

— TweetChelseaFC (@TweetChelseaFC) April 2, 2016"
"

Alan Hutton has more Premier League red cards (1) than wins (0) this season.

— Nick Pearce (@nickpearcey) April 2, 2016"

It finished 4-0 to Chelsea, a result that leaves Villa nine points adrift at the bottom of the Premier League with just seven games to play.
