Hunter Rison Tweets Decision Date: Odds on Where 4-Star WR Lands

Heavily recruited wide receiver Hunter Rison is ready to reveal his collegiate intentions.

The 4-star prospect tweeted upcoming plans to announce where he'll attend school, with several programs still perceived as legitimate contenders:

Rison, a 5'11", 190-pound junior at Skyline High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, reaches the final stretch of his recruitment with plenty to consider. The former Michigan State pledge is still contemplating a reunion with the Spartans, while coaching staffs across the country are watching closely as a decision is reached.

Rated No. 40 nationally among receivers, Rison released a list of nine favorites earlier this month:

Michigan State made the cut, along with fellow Big Ten Conference teams Penn State and Ohio State. Alabama, Cal, Miami, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas A&M also appeared in his collection of possible landing spots.

Now that we know which programs are in the mix and when a commitment will occur, it's time to start taking measure of contenders here. As Rison approaches an April announcement, here's a peek at programs expected to vie strongest for his pledge with assigned odds based on the likelihood he ends up on campus next year.

Oklahoma: 3-to-1

The Sooners secured a pair of 4-star pass targets this past weekend by landing commitments from Texas standouts Jalen Reagor and Charleston Rambo. This gives Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley three of the 2017 cycle's top 50 wide receivers in composite rankings, and he may soon add Rison to that collection.

Momentum has continued to progress in a positive direction for the Sooners since they extended an offer in late February. Oklahoma claims 11 consecutive expert predictions in Rison's "crystal ball" on 247Sports.

This method of projecting pledges isn't perfect, but it's an effective way to identify trends in recruiting, and Oklahoma is clearly making significant inroads in the eyes of various analysts across the industry. Aside from the Sooners and Michigan State, which held Rison's commitment for five months last year, no other program is picked to sign him.

Oklahoma aims to further enhance a class that features top-10 pro-style quarterback recruit Chris Robison and rates No. 2 overall in composite class rankings.

Michigan State: 4-to-1

The personal connection with Michigan State runs deep. His father, Andre Rison, starred at receiver for the Spartans in the late 1980s before embarking on an NFL career that featured five Pro Bowl selections.

Hunter appeared primed to follow the path to East Lansing following a June 2015 commitment to Michigan State. A widespread recruitment that now includes nearly 20 scholarship offers started with an offer from the Spartans:

Michigan State's 2017 recruiting efforts are far less advanced than Oklahoma at this stage. The Spartans carry just two commitments, including 3-star receiver Cody White.

This staff enjoyed a strong haul at the position last signing day, with four top-50 receivers. Rison must ultimately determine whether he wants to join the group of young competitors by recommitting to his dad's alma mater, or if it's time to carve his own path elsewhere.

Alabama: 6-to-1

This may shape up as a two-team race between Michigan State and Oklahoma, but it's unclear how wide of a gap exists between that pair and the rest of a crowded pack. Among the other seven schools listed by Rison, Alabama arguably presents the most intrigue.

The Crimson Tide didn't hesitate in this pursuit, as they extended an offer last summer. At the time, despite his Spartans pledge, Rison opened the door to a possible future in Tuscaloosa.

“Michigan State and Alabama are one and two,” he told Justin Hicks of MLive.com in July. “I’m still committed, but I’m definitely looking into my choices as well. ... I think time will tell. If it’s with Michigan State, I’ll be happy with it, and I’ll be a legacy there. If it’s somewhere else, that’s how it will be.”

Oklahoma has seemingly emerged as the strongest alternative, but don't count out Alabama. Unlike the Sooners, this squad is still searching for fits at receivera position that's extremely important for offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin after landing a limited group last signing day.

Alabama is in contention for a variety of top-tier 2017 pass-catchers, including multiple 5-star recruits, but none have announced a Tide pledge to this point. If Rison defies his recruitment's recent trends April 10, look for Kiffin and company to potentially capitalize.
