Nigeria's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Egypt on Friday threatened to end in disaster when 40,000 fans turned up and packed into a stadium with a capacity of just 25,000.
The huge turnout at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium came as a result of the Kaduna State government making entry for the match free, with the aim of encouraging a good atmosphere.

But the ploy could have backfired in tragedy, as 15,000 extra fans scaled the floodlights, screens and other temporary infrastructure in order to catch a glimpse of the action on the pitch.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Mohamed Salah scoring a late equaliser for the visitors. Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi made his competitive debut for the Super Eagles, meaning he is no longer able to represent England.
