Despite the lack of competitive action during this international break, the beautiful game dominated the Friday news cycle.

Every front page splashed with news of Adam Johnson's six-year prison sentence, while every back page paid tribute to one of the greatest players of all time.

The Guardian devoted the front page of its Sport section to football legend Johan Cruyff, who died of cancer on Thursday. It compared the former Oranje star to the Beatlessuch was his cultural significance—but seemingly used a picture of one of Cruyff's former team-mates, Rob Rensenbrink:

The Times also devoted the full page to Cruyff, leading with one of his many famous quotes:

It was the same story in the Telegraph, which ran with the simple headline "A genius like no other:"

The Independent opted for a similar tribute, using a black-and-white photo of Cruyff from when he was at Ajax:

Cruyff also earned the full back page of the Sun:

The Daily Mirror led with Cruyff tributes and spoke of Ajax's plans to rename their stadium, the Amsterdam Arena, in his honour. It also reported that West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has yet to earn himself a new contract:

The Daily Star's main story, meanwhile, was an exclusive claim that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be offered £250,000 per week to wear a Manchester United shirt next season:
