Manchester United vs. Liverpool: Goals, Highlights from the Europa League

Joe GallagherMar 17, 2016

Manchester United had it all to do on Thursday night against Liverpool in the Europa League.

Jurgen Klopp's men took a 2-0 lead with them to Old Trafford following last week's victory at Anfield, and Louis van Gaal had an almighty task ahead of him if he was to keep alive the Red Devils' slim hopes of continental silverware this season.

United needed to be first to score, and after David De Gea had made a great save, Anthony Martial won a penalty from Nathaniel Clyne.

The Frenchman got back to his feet to put United 1-0 in front.

Daniel Sturridge then beat De Gea from a free-kick but was denied by the woodwork:

Jordan Henderson went close before Philippe Coutinho made things immensely tough for United on the stroke of half time.

Neither side could fashion a decent chance in the second half, with Liverpool holding on to a 1-1 draw and a 3-1 aggregate victory to book their spot in Friday's quarter final draw.
