Trio of Texas 4-Star WR Teammates Has More Than 50 Offers Combined

CEDAR HILL, Texas — Weapons.

That's how Cedar Hill, Texas, 4-star quarterback Avery Davis described his wide receiver corps. And, yes, the group is a proverbial arsenal.

Davis has the privilege to look to his left and right and throw to one of three of the nation's top-50 wide receivers. Charleston Rambo, Camron Buckley and Jaylon Jackson are 4-star receivers who have attracted a lot of interest from colleges and are expected to be leaders for Cedar Hill High School for the upcoming season.

"If you line up against any one of us, you never know what you're going to get," Buckley said. "That's what makes us special."

To which Davis added: "Any one of these guys can take it 95 yards and score on any given play."

Collectively, the trio of receivers has 51 offers. And those numbers continue to grow as the spring progresses.

Rambo and Buckley are often seen together, and for a period of time, the receivers were receiving similar offers. It got to a point where Cedar Hill head coach Joey McGuire began calling them "Ram & Cam."

"Rambo and I are close," Buckley said. "Two weeks in a row, we both got the same offers at the same time. Coach McGuire started calling us 'Ram & Cam,' and it just stuck."

With Jackson's contributions to the receiving corps, McGuire laughed at potentially changing the nickname to "Ram & Cam with a side of Jack," incorporating all three targets. Whatever the nickname, one thing McGuire is hoping people will call his receivers is "unstoppable."

And, collectively, that could be the case once the 2016 season starts.

"We're going to be able to go into one personnel package and get into hundreds of formations because of these guys," McGuire said. "I'm excited about it."

Different receivers, same results

From a recruiting standpoint, each receiver has something special about him. Jackson, who has eight offers, is the smallest of the three at 5'10" and 164 pounds. He's also the fastest. In fact, few in the Dallas area are consistently faster than Jackson, who has been clocked in the 40-yard dash in less than 4.4 seconds.

"I feel like I run good routes. And I've got a lot of speed," said Jackson, who has offers from Missouri, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Arizona State and others. "When I get the ball, I'm trying to score. I don't want to be touched."

While Jackson, the nation's No. 43 receiver, is the speedster of the group, Buckley, No. 35 nationally, is the receiver who may be the most competitive in one-on-one situations. At 6'1" and 186 pounds, Buckley competes for every ball and refuses to lose, no matter who he's matched up against. He may get his tenacity honestly, as he's the nephew of former NFL all-pro and Miami Hurricanes linebacker Jessie Armstead.

With 16 offers, Buckley also has great football IQ, which allows him to be a step ahead of the defense in some situations.

"I think my best quality is playing the game and knowing what the defense is going to do," said Buckley, who has offers from Houston, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Texas and Auburn, among others. "I can talk to one of my receivers and tell them what the defense is running. I can tell Avery that this side is open or the other side is open. It's just the communication and making sure we're all on the same page."

And then there's Rambo. The nation's No. 22 receiver may be the most dangerous of the three because of his size and speed. He's a 6'1", 166-pound athlete who uses his length and sure hands to help Cedar Hill move the chains.

Rambo, who will visit Notre Dame with Davis this weekend, also is the player who keeps the atmosphere light around the locker room. If he isn't the first one cracking jokes, he's the guy who is first making his peers laugh.

"You've got to have fun with it," said Rambo, who has 27 of the trio's 51 combined offers, including scholarships from Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Miami, Auburn and Arkansas. "But when it's time to play, I feel like any ball thrown to me, I'm going to catch it 99 percent of the time."

As a group, they pose a problem for secondary units, primarily because they all have alpha-dog mentalities. Add in 3-star all-purpose back Kaegun Williams, a versatile option who can line up in the backfield, at slot receiver or as an outside receiver, and it's a situation that puts a huge smile on Davis' face.

"They're competitive with each other, which is only going to make them better," Davis said. "If someone gets a one-handed catch in practice, someone else has to make a better one-handed catch. The competitiveness really fuels them, and to have them all is a blessing."

McGuire's best receiver tandem ever?

McGuire isn't a stranger to having talented players at the position. In 2012, his wide receiver group included Quincy Adeboyejo, Brandon Harris, LaQuvionte Gonzalez and Travis Wilson. Adeboyejo is shining at Ole Miss. Harris and Gonzalez are Big 12 receivers at Iowa State and Kansas, respectively. Wilson is a receiver/tight end who Nevada turned into an outside linebacker.

McGuire said the current class of receivers has a chance of making headlines similar to that 2012 team. Throw in Williams, who was named running back MVP of The Opening Dallas regional last Sunday, and Cedar Hill, offensively, has the potential of being one of America's most dangerous teams.

"I always talk about being careful in having a really good attitude. You can work your gift, but that's exactly what it is—a gift," McGuire said. "In 2012, we had a great group of receivers. I think we're really similar with this group, but this group may have more speed."

On paper, the trio is expected to be impressive, but obviously, it will have to get the job done on the field. Per statistics from the Dallas Morning News, Rambo, Buckley and Jackson collectively had 56 catches for 893 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. It must be noted that Jackson missed the majority of the year with a knee injury.

Buckley led Cedar Hill last season in catches (31) and receiving touchdowns (seven). Rambo outgained Buckley, 434-432, and finished with 22 catches and five touchdowns.

A healthy trio in the fall, Davis said, could mean trouble for defensive backs.

"With the routes they run, they put defenders on skates," he said. "I feel bad for DBs who have to stick them."

McGuire added: "You've got a group of guys who could each have 40-50 catches apiece. They're going to keep defenses on edge to where they have to stay engaged the entire game."

The receivers will be tested early in the 2016 season. Cedar Hill opens the season against Las Vegas powerhouse Bishop Gorman, which features Ohio State defensive tackle Haskell Garrett and USC safety pledge Bubba Bolden on defense, as well as Texas A&M quarterback commit Tate Martell leading the offense.

Consider the receivers ready for the challenge. And consider them set to impress more college scouts during the spring and summer as they continue to prepare for the upcoming season.

"We get better by watching each other," Rambo said. "We push each other and make sure we all are doing what we're supposed to. We know people are watching us."

Buckley added: "We like to play around, but when those lights come on, it gets real."
