Cristiano Ronaldo to Sue Businessman over 'False' Favela Story

Rory MarsdenMar 16, 2016

Cristiano Ronaldo is taking legal action against a businessman who claimed the Real Madrid star bought a Rio de Janeiro favela and gave it back to the residents rent-free.

The story recently circulated among German media outlets, the claim being made that Ronaldo, 31, had bought the favela in the Brazilian city for €2 million, per Sky Sports News HQ.

That he then returned it to the residents on a "rent-free basis" reportedly came from a property agency, and a representative of Ronaldo has now confirmed that the forward is suing the source of the story, who is alleged to have also invented other stories about the Portuguese in the past, per Sky Sports' report:

Following the issuing of a press release with false information about Cristiano Ronaldo, the player has decided to move forward with legal action against the misuse of his name.

This time, the lie is about an alleged acquisition of land in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In the past, the same source had invented the buying of an apartment in New York, the participation on a Martin Scorsese movie and, recently, the investment in a hotel in Monte Carlo.

Cristiano Ronaldo's name has been used by an alleged entrepreneur, known for inventing stories and spreading false information on public figures and organisations, who was reportedly sentenced to three years and 10 months in jail by an Italian court of law.

The news about Cristiano Ronaldo's personal and professional life are released exclusively by official and reliable sources and media should refrain to publish rumours spread by a person who wants to deceive public opinion in its own benefit.

Last October, reports emerged that Ronaldo had been dropped from a potential role in American director Scorcese's new film, The Manipulator, per Gazzetta World's Ogo Sylla.

It seems that Ronaldo has no time for people inventing stories about him, whether they paint him in a good or bad light.

His main ambitions, as ever, remain on the field with Real, and his focus now will likely be on who Los Blancos draw in Friday's quarter-final draw for the UEFA Champions League.

With Real now 12 points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race, the Champions League has effectively become the last competition they can win this season.

The Spanish giants eased past Roma in the round of 16, with Ronaldo extending his lead as the tournament's most prolific scorer ever in the process, per Sky Sports News HQ:

Real will likely hope to avoid an all-Spanish clash with Barca or Atletico Madrid in the last eight, but they will be confident of going further in the tournament no matter who they face. And Ronaldo's focus is unlikely to be swayed from the challenges remaining for him and his club this season.
