Monday Recap
Monday evening started badly for Granada as they were left to negotiate more than an hour of their clash with Espanyol a man down.
Striker Barral got the second of his yellow cards in just the 28th minute to hamstring Granada alarmingly early.
La Liga analyst Javier J. Hernandez, though, suggested the loss of Barral could even help the hosts:
And Granada did indeed have the better of the action after Barral's dismissal, taking the lead through Rochina in the 40th minute.
The Spaniard pounced on a bobbling ball in the box and sneaked his left-footed finish into the far corner of the goal.
Following the break, Granada were able to maintain their slender lead and entered the final 10 minutes of the clash looking to claim a vital three points.
However, disaster struck eight minutes from time when Lopes' deflected clearance nestled in the back of his own net.
Granada move out of the relegation zone but will be ruing not holding out for all three points at this crucial stage of the season.
Saturday saw another masterclass from Barca against Getafe as they stretched their unbeaten record to 37 games on the bounce.
Neymar bagged a double after Juan Rodriguez's own goal had opened the scoring early on, while Lionel Messi, Arda Turan and Munir El Haddadi were also on the scoresheet.
As ever, Messi was heavily involved in Barcelona's display, Bleacher Report's Dean Jones naming him as one of the players of the weekend despite his missed penalty:
The odds and their eight-point lead at the top of the table suggest the title is all but Barca's, but second-placed Atletico Madrid kept up what little pressure they could by beating Deportivo La Coruna 3-0.
The goals came from Saul Niguez, Antoine Griezmann and Angel Correa on a relatively easy day for Diego Simeone's side at the Vicente Calderon on Saturday.
It was less easy going for their neighbours, Real, on Sunday away at Las Palmas. Los Blancos eventually claimed a 2-1 win, Casemiro firing a late winner after Willian Jose had cancelled out Sergio Ramos' opener.
Ramos was given his marching orders late on, far from the first time he has been dismissed, per Unibet:
Gary Neville's Valencia were condemned to a third straight defeat by Levante as Giuseppe Rossi scored the only goal of the match, and Los Che now sit in 12th, eight points clear of the relegation zone.
At the top of the table, it seems there is no stopping Barcelona, and surely only a collapse of disastrous proportions from the Blaugrana could see them miss out on the title.
