Cristiano Ronaldo's Las Palmas Performance Was His Least Effective in La Liga

Joe GallagherMar 14, 2016

Real Madrid snuck past Las Palmas on Sunday to keep the pressure on second-placed Atletico Madrid, but it was a forgettable evening for Los Blancos' star man.

For Cristiano Ronaldo, his impact on the game was the least it has ever been in La Liga, and the Portuguese has only ever put in a less influential performance once since joining the Spanish giants, reports Mario de la Riva of AS.

The three-time Ballon d'Or winner had just 28 touches in the match, the most anonymous he's been in a Spanish league game when playing over 45 minutes.

Being one of the world's most dominant footballers and still well in the hunt for Spain's golden boot, Ronaldo's performances have regularly been under scrutiny, and he's already gone missing in league games against Malaga, Granada, Eibar and Rayo Vallecano this term, according to De La Riva's report.

And only once, in a 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in April 2014, has the 31-year-old touched the ball less after playing the majority of a match. On that occasion, en route to an historic 10th Champions League title, Ronaldo touched the ball just 16 times before being substituted in the 73rd minute in Madrid.

He might hope it's a sign of things to come, though, with his side safely through to the last eight of the Champions League, their only genuine chance of silverware this term.
