Recap
Atletico did what was expected on Saturday, cruising to a 3-0 win over Deportivo.
Saul opened the score early in the first half, handing the hosts an advantage they would never relinquish. Atletico dominated the first half, but despite a multitude of chances, Deportivo managed to stay within distance heading into half-time.
Bleacher Report UK's Karl Matchett thought Atletico should have done more with their chances:
The Rojiblanco pushed for a second goal after the break, and Griezmann found the back of the net at the hour mark. Although, there was a hint of offside about the goal.
Deportio's offside trap left them down late, allowing Correa to sneak through the defence and add a third goal for Atletico. The win sees them take a seven-point lead over Real Madrid, who will travel to the Canary Islands to take on Las Palmas on Sunday.
Neymar bagged a brace in Barcelona's 6-0 demolition of Getafe, while Lionel Messi also got his name on the scoresheet and missed a penalty. Bet365 couldn't help but point out this statistic:
The Argentina international was sensational during the first half against Getafe, assisting goals left and right and scoring a screamer of his own. Juan Rodriguez was unfortunate to open the score with an own goal, and Neymar, Munir El Haddadi, Messi and Arda Turan all added goals of their own.
The final score looked rather harsh on Getafe, but the visitors simply weren't in the same league as Barcelona. Per Robert Guell of the club's official website, manager Luis Enrique is finding it easy to coach the team right now:
"It’s a great situation. We have almost the whole team available, except for Sandro, who got injured in the last training session, and Rafinha, who’s close to being declared fit.
We’re in optimal condition to keep performing. That’s very favourable because the team has to play every three days.
Everyone is in very good form. Munir is playing very well. He played a very complete game, he brings a lot to the team, and he can score.
As a coach, it’s a perfect situation. Everyone wants to play and the only problem is I don’t have enough minutes for everyone.
"
The title is Barcelona's to lose, and the odds reflect that. Unless the Catalans suffer a meltdown for the ages, Atletico will find it impossible to bridge the large gap in the standings, even if they do keep winning.
Iago Aspas' early goal ensured Celta Vigo took all three points against Real Sociedad, allowing the Galicians to move back ahead of Sevilla in the race for fifth place. The UEFA Europa League holders still have a match in hand, however.
Ze Castro and Gonzalo Escalante both scored in Saturday's last match, as Eibar and Rayo Vallecano played out a 1-1 draw. Eibar finished the match with 10 players, as Josip Radosevic was sent off a few minutes before the final whistle.
