UK Back Pages: Liverpool Take All the Headlines for Beating Manchester United

Liverpool struck blood in the first-ever European clash between hated English rivals Liverpool and Manchester United. 

The Red Devils delivered a flat display at Anfield, while the hosts were up for the spectacle and have a firm hold on their Europa League tie thanks to the 2-0 victory. 

The Daily Mirror called it "Gold Firm," as Roberto Firmino's late goal put away United as they hoped to return to Old Trafford down only one thanks to a heroic display from David De Gea.

Daily Star pointed the blame at Michael Carrick, as his poor clearance aided Firmino in Liverpool's second goal. The paper also reported that Rafa Benitez and Newcastle hit a stall in contract talks.
