Liverpool hosted Manchester United on Thursday in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League last-16 tie—the very first European meeting between the two great rivals.
The home side went ahead after 20 minutes when Memphis Depay was penalised for a foul on Nathaniel Clyne just inside the box, Daniel Sturridge converting the penalty:

Jurgen Klopp's side continued to press after the break, and doubled their advantage after 73 minutes when United failed to clear Jordan Henderson's cross and Roberto Firmino finished well from close range:
