Champions League Results 2016: Qualified Teams After Tuesday's Round-of-16 Ties
Wolfsburg and Real Madrid advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday after defeating Gent and Roma, respectively. Los Blancos beat the Giallorossi 2-0 in the second leg to complete a 4-0 aggregate win, while Wolfsburg triumphed 4-2 over both legs against Gent following Tuesday's 1-0 triumph.
It was far from a classic evening of European football as the four teams on display failed to produce a first-half goal between them, but the first-leg leaders eventually pushed their advantage to seal their progress late on.
Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez scored within four minutes of one another to push Los Blancos into the next phase, while Andre Schurrle netted his fourth goal in three games to help book Wolfsburg's spot in the last eight.

| Wolfsburg | 1-0 (4-2) | Gent |
| Real Madrid | 2-0 (4-0) | Roma |
Wolfsburg 1-0 Gent
Ugly though it might have been, Wolfsburg finished the job they started in Belgium by claiming a 1-0 win over Gent on Tuesday, depriving their guests of the away goals they needed to turn the tie around.
An uneventful first half saw the travelling party account for the majority of possession, according to WhoScored.com, and German outlet DW Sports noticed the hosts looked set up from the beginning to defend:
That perhaps wasn't the forward-thinking, attractive mentality Wolves fans were hoping to see as their team sought to make the Champions League quarters, but one could hardly lambast what proved to be an effective tactic.
Schurrle finally broke the deadlock after 74th minute, and who else but the in-form Julian Draxler stood as the provider? WhoScored broke down his flourishing contribution for manager Dieter Hecking's side recently:
Despite boasting a major advantage in possession, Gent troubled the goal of stand-in Wolfsburg stopper Koen Casteels very little, and their fairy-tale run in Europe eventually petered out with something of a whimper.
The Belgian minnows will savour their adventure, while Wolfsburg will know things need to improve if they're to make it past another round of Champions League questioning, where the opposition will undergo a substantial upgrade.
Real Madrid 2-0 Roma

An away victory at the Santiago Bernabeu looked all but impossible for Roma after suffering a 2-0 humiliation in the reverse fixture, but manager Luciano Spalletti's side started off positively in Madrid as they took sight at goal.
Converting their chances proved a different debate entirely, however, and the Press Association's Richard Martin was left in shock as the likes of Mohamed Salah and Edin Dzeko fluffed their lines time and again:
"How many chances do Roma need? Salah again shooting wide of the near post. Third clear opportunity for Roma, all have gone wide of near post
— Richard Martin (@rich9908) March 8, 2016"
It proved costly too, as a newly invigorated Real returned to the pitch following a goalless first period, and some words of encouragement from manager Zinedine Zidane clearly took effect with his troops.
The tactician also had a direct hand in Real's breakthrough as substitute Lucas Vazquez supplied the cross from which Ronaldo scored the game's opener. The Champions League Twitter account provided details as to how significant that strike was to the Portuguese:
It then took just four minutes for Rodriguez to add a second, when Toni Kroos instigated a quick counter that saw Real move up the pitch too quickly for Roma to catch up. Ronaldo slotted his Colombian team-mate into space down the left side of the box before Rodriguez lashed home a well-placed decider.
The goals didn't flow for Real on Tuesday evening despite their having 37 attempts at goal compared to Roma's 11, per WhoScored. But another fine defensive display means Real have now kept clean sheets in seven of their eight European games this season, although Roma will rue their missed chances.
