Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern Munich: Score, Reaction from 2016 Bundesliga Match
Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich failed to find the breakthrough during Saturday's Bundesliga mach, playing out a scoreless draw in Der Klassiker.
Both teams missed an abundance of chances in what was a highly entertaining match, although Bayern had a slight advantage and will rue the fact they didn't score at least one goal.
The Bavarians maintain their five-point lead in the standings, and at this point, they're the clear favourites for the Bundesliga title.

As shared by Bayern's official Twitter account, the Bundesliga leaders were forced into the same makeshift back line they used in their UEFA Champions League match against Juventus, pairing David Alaba and Joshua Kimmich in defence:
Meanwhile, the home fans were remarkably loud as the two teams entered the pitch, and even Bayern's U.S. Twitter account paid respect to the sheer noise the Dortmund faithful were creating:
From the opening whistle, the pace of the match was high, and the first real chance fell to the hosts. Henrikh Mkhitaryan launched a counter-attack after a dreadful corner from Bayern, but Marco Reus tried to do too much once he got the ball and wasted the opportunity.
On the other side of the pitch, Thomas Muller missed a wide-open chance after a blunder from goalkeeper Roman Burki, and the Germany international seemed more surprised than anyone he missed that chance.
Bwin thought he should have opened the score right there:
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put Manuel Neuer to work for the first time with a stinging drive, but the shot hardly troubled the experienced goalkeeper. Dortmund held the edge in possession and chances early, with Ilkay Gundogan and Mkhitaryan running the show in midfield.
But while Dortmund created more chances, the Bavarians certainly created the better. Douglas Costa set up Arturo Vidal with a fantastic cross after 19 minutes, and the Chilean really should have done better, pushing the ball wide of the target.
Squawka's Matt Smith noticed the former Juventus man was starting to take over in midfield:
As the half wore on, Dortmund shifted their focus more toward the counter-attack, looking to take advantage of Bayern's high defensive line by using the speed of Reus and Aubameyang. The former nearly found himself through on goal with only Neuer to beat, but youngster Kimmich produced a sensational last-ditch tackle to deny him.
On the other side of the pitch, Costa's shot missed the crossbar by inches, and Burki was being kept busy. Possession had shifted in favour of Bayern, but Die Schwarzgelben continued to threaten, and Reus again came close to a one-on-one situation, only to be denied by the linesman.
Arjen Robben fired the last chance of the first half just wide, and entering half-time, Bayern appeared to be on top. Fox Soccer was enjoying the action:
Both teams took their foot off the gas a little at the start of the second half, although Neuer was called into action after 50 minutes to deny Aubameyang. Mkhitaryan couldn't put the rebound on target.
The chance seemed to wake Bayern up again, and Vidal came within inches of opening the score, as his header flashed across the face of goal. Robben followed that up with a clever shot, which Burki pushed over his goal.
Meanwhile, Bleacher Report's Lars Pollmann thought the Dortmund attack was coming up short:
Erik Durm took plenty of risks heading a cross out for a corner, and the resulting set piece fell to Vidal, whose effort crashed into the crossbar.
The barrage of chances continued, and Aubameyang was the next man to try his luck, pushing a shot into the side netting.
With 20 minutes left to go, Bayern once again started to take control, and Dortmund lost their grip on midfield. Mkhitaryan in particular could no longer find the forwards with relative ease, and the hosts resorted to defending their own box and firing the long ball instead.
Bundesliga writer Cristian Nyari thought a draw would be a good result for Dortmund based on the many chances Bayern had:
"Bayern wasting a lot of good chances. Could come back to haunt them. Hard to believe it's still 0-0. #BVBFCB
— Cristian Nyari (@CrisNyari) March 5, 2016"
Muller summed up his outing with a comical miss after 84 minutes, putting a shot miles wide, before Adrian Ramos missed a glorious chance, failing to find the target with a header from close range. That would be the final chance of the match, which ended with the same score it started with.
Bayern Munich will host Werder Bremen in their next Bundesliga outing, while Dortmund will play Mainz 05.
Post-Match Reaction
Kimmich was one of the standout performers, but after the match, manager Pep Guardiola took him apart for a long talk. While it initially seemed the Spaniard was upset about something, he later clarified he was simply coaching the youngster, and told reporters he can "only say good things" about Kimmich, via DW Sport:
The emergence of Kimmich as a viable option in the centre of defence has been a major blessing for the Bavarians, who will need the youngster to continue to perform moving forward. He struggled in the first leg against Juventus, and the Bianconeri are likely to test him again when they travel to the Allianz Arena.
