EA Sports has released a statement regarding Adam Johnson's status on the popular FIFA video game.

The makers of FIFA 16 have been under pressure from victim advocacy groups to remove the former Sunderland and England player after he was found guilty of sexual activity with a girl aged 15.

A spokesman told the Sun (h/t the Mirror) that "technical issues" prevented Johnson's removal from the game, but EA Sports has since released a statement saying action will be taken, per BBC Newsbeat.

"Adam Johnson has been removed from the Active Rosters of both Sunderland and England in FIFA 16," according to the statement. "We're working to remove him from other modes within the game as soon as possible."
