Duke vs. Pittsburgh: Score, Highlights and Reaction from 2016 Regular Season
It was senior day for the Pittsburgh Panthers on Sunday, and senior guard James Robinson's 14-point, seven-assist game was part of a balanced attack that gave the Panthers an impressive 76-62 win over the No. 15 Duke Blue Devils at Petersen Events Center.
Five players were in double figures for Pitt, led by junior forward Jamel Artis' 17 points, and Panthers junior forward Sheldon Jeter also chipped in with 11 points off the bench. Pittsburgh has now won three of its last four after Sunday's contest, the team's first win over a ranked team this season, and Pitt Basketball reacted accordingly after the win:

Pittsburgh head football coach Pat Narduzzi was at the game and captured this moment when the final buzzer sounded:
The Blue Devils were able to get a game-high 22 points from guard Grayson Allen, but he was the only major contributor for Duke, which has now dropped two of its last three after winning five in a row. Star freshman Brandon Ingram finished with 17 points, but he also had four fouls with Duke shooting a collective 37.5 percent.
The Panthers' game plan was evident early on—make the extra pass to find the open man. Pittsburgh recorded 20 assists on 28 made field goals. After taking a 39-32 lead at halftime, the Panthers assisted on six of their first eight baskets while grabbing five offensive rebounds in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
While Pittsburgh's offense was making the extra pass, its defense contained Duke from the start. The Blue Devils missed their first four shots and committed three turnovers in the first four minutes, nine seconds. During that span, Pittsburgh opened the game on a 10-0 run while making four of its first five shots, including an Artis three-pointer.
Artis had an efficient game, making six of 10 shots to go with five rebounds and four assists. David Aldridge from Duke Report took note on his solid performance:
The Blue Devils finally got on the board on an Ingram three-pointer with 15:51 left in the first half, but Duke couldn't contain the Panthers in the rebounding department. While Duke had 10 total rebounds in the first half, Pittsburgh had nine offensive rebounds in the first 20 minutes.
With the Panthers controlling the glass, Duke tried to get back in the game from three-point range but struggled heavily from distance. The Blue Devils took 32 threes, making only 11.
Seven of Duke's 13 turnovers came in the first half. Despite that, along with Duke shooting 38.5 percent from the floor, the Blue Devils found themselves trailing by seven at halftime. The young talent of Duke was keeping it in the game despite Pitt playing well, as ESPN's Dana O'Neil noted:
Pittsburgh—playing with a starting lineup of two seniors, two juniors and a sophomore—took a 17-point lead with 13:56 remaining. CBS Sports' Seth Davis chimed in with his thoughts on Duke's performance:
It was a wire-to-wire win for the Panthers, who led by as many as 23 points. Now with its 20th win and a quality win over a talented Duke team, Pittsburgh may have done enough to earn an NCAA tournament bid. A solid performance in the ACC tournament should do that. But Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports thinks the Panthers have done more than enough to earn a spot in the Field of 68:
Duke seemed to have figured it out after winning five in a row, but questions now arise with back-to-back road losses to Pitt and Louisville. The Blue Devils played only seven players and got limited production from forward Marshall Plumlee, who got into foul trouble late in the first half. This young Duke team seems to have trouble playing in tough environments, and that'll be something to keep an eye on heading into the conference tournament.
Postgame Reaction
Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon feels his team has stepped up defensively during this recent stretch, and credited Robinson's leadership along the way.
"We're a team that's matured and come together and played our best basketball and our seniors are playing their best basketball," Dixon said, per the Associated Press (via ESPN.com). "James Robinson is playing his best basketball. We've let him down in a few of these losses to ranked teams but I thought we made up for it."
After shooting a collective 18-of-48 from the floor, Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski gave credit to the stellar play of Pittsburgh's defense.
"Their defense was outstanding and their pursuit of the ball was even better," Krzyzewski said, per the AP. "They were superb and I'm not sure if we were. We were out of character."
With Pittsburgh getting its first win over a top-25 team, Artis did not hold back when talking about his team.
"Duke is a good team but we're a better team and we showed it tonight," Artis said, per the AP.
